2008 Vine Cliff Chardonnay Carneros

The 2008 growing season began with an early bud break, frosts and variable weather during bloom. This coupled with another dry winter resulted in small berries and clusters creating lower yields. Cool summer conditions helped Vine Cliff Winery retain good natural acidity and flavor maturity. Warmer September temperatures accelerated ripeness, allowing them to begin harvesting ten days ahead of 2007. A complex array of sweet tropical fruit, lychee and pineapple, with a hint of crème caramel and lightly toasted oak spice, vanilla and ginger. Layered and rich on the tongue with lemon drop candy and white peach fruit on the tongue with notes of toasty oak spice, pineapple and vanilla whipped cream, finishes smooth with a lingering nutmeg spice.
