The Land

It is a part of the old vineyard of our estate, the one located in the highest area. The exposure is always south, but in this high part of the vineyard the land, already pebbly by nature, it is even more thin and dry compared to the remaining area, thanks to the sloping position. Montepulciano plants are therefore in the best condition to express quality: restrained force, small and thin cluster, with achievement of full maturation in advance. The good exposure and the constant ventilation, which characterizes our entire valley, complete the picture of a highland Montepulciano.

The Vineyard

The traditional type of training is forced to low productions through pruning of the cluster, lead with the logic of preserving the clusters which are best exposed and well on the physiologic process of maturation. The reduced contribution of nutrients and a correct control of the green contribute in obtaining grapes destined to express the most noble and important side of Montepulciano.

The Wine

If one wants to demonstrate that Montepulciano d’Abruzzo may express itself differently in the Abruzzi of Natural Parks and of high altitude nature, San Calisto is a tangible proof. This cru is absolutely deceiving and complex in its olfactory cleanness. The very dark fruit dominates the nose, the dark blueberry is net, accompanied to warm spicy notes like coffee and chocolate that marries well with the balsamic vein of the clove and the mineral of the wet stone. Ambitious, with outstanding structure, the full body unfolds with exceptional freshness and remarkable minerals.
