2014 Charles Krug Pinot Noir Carneros image

THE WINE Charles Krug explored myriad viticultural areas to find the best climate and soil for his vineyards. Following in his footsteps, we sought the best possible location for Pinot Noir and discovered the Carneros region in southern Napa Valley. With 150 years of winemaking experience, each bottle we craft is the result of unparalleled winemaking knowledge. THE VINTAGE Most notably, the 2015 vintage for Napa Valley was earlier to start, earlier to finish, and resulted in much lower tonnage than recent years. The weather played a significant part; most of our rain fell in December of 2014, and the following months were much drier and by mid-summer, warmer than usual. After three seasons of high yield, we were due for a correction, and between some cooler weather during set in May, and possibly less water in the soil due to the lack of rain, we did harvest significantly less fruit. However, all the virtues of a smaller crop – small berries, concentrated flavors, good aromatics – are present in the wines.
