The name “Euli” comes from the name of a Longobard tribe that once inhabited the area where the Grignolino vineyard is now. The tribe was called “Ueel Waigkika”, which in the contemporary German language was written Euli-iup-pina: euli = owl, pina = high/above, Iupi = Jove, so “the owl that is higher than Jove.” Cool story and the wine had quite a few fans at our Piemdont tasting at Cafe Maxx, a bit of a sour cherry and cranberry like fruit with notes of tar and truffle. A light and easy drinking red with that dark earth truffle like notes through the finish, a real crowd pleaser and uniquely Piedmont. Finish 35+ Very good
