2013 Castronovo Montepulciano d'Abruzzo image

Paul, I was only kidding when I compared Abruzzo to the Armpit of Italy when it comes to wine. Italy is shaped like a foot and this region is actually located behind the knee, another sweaty area of the body. With that said one of my favorite wines from Italy comes from this region, Valentini Montepulcino D'Abruzzo which is stunning wine and proves that this region can attain greatness with the Montepuciano Vatiety. Paul actually did go to Italy and invested in some vines, I did not get the idea that he was planning on building a winery but the San Lorenzo winery has done a nice job for Paul and this 2007 vintage wine offers up lots of blackberry like fruit smooth and round tannins and some nice black spices, licorice and nicely balanced acidity making this wine a perfect quaffer for everyday. This medium bodied wine showed nicely at our cooking class in January as a prospect for tailgating! Very Good +
