2011 Bodegas Kaiken Terroir Series Malbec Bonarda Petite Verdot

Aurelio Montes son is running this winery now, mostly estate fruit from their Lujan De Cuyo estate in the Agrello region and they also purchase fruit from neighboring vineyards. A blend of 80% Malbec (40-60 year old), 12% Bonarda and 8% Petit Verdot, 30% first year barrels, 30% second and 30% third fermented in both concrete and barrel, they have a more extracted style, has a good hand of coffee and mocha spice notes to the dark berry fruit, blueberry, blackberry fruit very rich and forward with smoky notes coming out as the wine opens. A good amount of blackberry fruit on the tongue with a nice touch of earth and spice notes to the finish, violet floral highlights, light smoky notes on the finish. Finish 35+ Very Good +
