2010 Chateau Goulee Medoc

(90 Points)  A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, this wine displays an opaque ruby/purple color and notes of damp earth, forest floor, white chocolate, sweet black currants and spice box. The wine is round, full-bodied and luscious, with 14.7% natural alcohol. Although meant for early consumption, it should easily last up to a decade or more.  Goulee’s 2010 is another sleeper of the vintage from Michel Reybier, the proprietor of Cos d’Estournel.  Wine Advocate #205, Feb 2013

Wine Watch Review:This is a new package for this product and this vineyard is 30 miles north of the St. Estephe, they bought an old vineyard by the river and the port of goulee is the namesake.  They grafted vines on to older rootstock so you get the impression of older vines in a much quicker time.  A nice hand of tobacco, cigar box spice, roasted coffee, fresh earth and clove notes to the plum, currant and cassis berry fruit, a classic Bordeaux bouquet.  A light and fresh style of Bordeaux with a good hand of that earth, tobacco spice, coffee notes through the finish, has some tannins on the finish, still quite youthful this wine needs at least 3-5 years in the bottle.  Finish 40+    Excellent
