2013 Domaine Ostertag Gewurztraminer Vignoble d'E Alsace

Gewurztraminer at the Domaine is always made in an off-dry style. Indeed we pick it later than the other varieties, with a balance similar to most of alsatian «vendanges tardives»,  while the vine is still feeding the berries with water and nutrients so before the fruits start dehydrating.

The result is a fruit-driven wine with no «terroir» ambition, which is the reflection of the variety's heady personality but balanced by a subtle and ethereal freshness.

The 2013 vintage was hand-picked on the 21st of October, with a natural alcohol potential of 14°1. It was slowly pressed with no crushing, and processed as an off-dry wine in stainless steel tank, leaving 53 g/L of residual sugar with 11° alcohol. It was bottled mid-may 2014. Certified Organic and Biodynamic.

This is a very bright and elegant wine, with aerial balance and no heaviness at all.

It has flavors of yellow and white fruits, honey and a hint of sweet spices and white pepper.  Best enjoyed young, it reveals its charms before the meal, as well as with exotic white meat dishes, or after the meal with light pastry or chocolate.
