2009 Tenuta Degli Dei Cavalli

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petite Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the Cavalli family fortune is in fashion and this is the next generation who is more interested in horses than fashion. Dark cherry and cassis berry fruit on the nose, wonderful intensity here, dark spices, toasty oak spice and pencil lead notes, this wine reminds me of a bordeaux. A big and chewy wine on the tongue with lots of everything, cassis and currant berry fruit, dusty earth tones and a long finish that is layered with toasty oak spice, dark coco, a bit of that graphite/mineral from the nose and some fresh plowed earth notes through the finish.
