"If penicillin can cure those that are ill, Spanish sherry can bring the dead back to life."

- Sir Alexander Fleming

We have an incredible line-up of events for next week Tuesday through Saturday and a new menu at the end of this offering.  Remember every night we have an event on the calendar the wine bar is open.

This tasting on Saturday night is our first stand up classroom event with a demonstration on how to carve the most famous of all the cured meats- Iberico Jamon.  Of course, we also have a wine tasting with one of the best values in Spain bodegas Luzon.

Spain has over 2.9 million acres planted making it the most widely planted wine producing nation in the world today just behind Italy and France.  But because of the old vines, the high altitude of most of the vineyards in Spain as well as wide spacing in the vineyards and very infertile soils the yields are much lower than in Italy or France.

Spain also has an abundance of native grape varieties, with over 400 varieties planted throughout Spain.  And just like in the rest of the business world the 80/20 rule applies with Spain's varietal mix with 80 percent of the country's wine production made from only 20 grapes—including Tempranillo (which has several names like, cencibel, Tinto de Tor and tinto del pays to name a few, Albariño, Garnacha, Palomino, Airen, Macabeo, Parellada, Xarel•lo, Cariñena and Monastrell.

The new wines from Spain are some of the best values coming from Europe today and at the top level of quality there are more emerging stars than almost anywhere in the world. The secret here is old vines and new talent on the rise.  We have been big fans of the wines from Bodegas Luzon for a number of years so when we heard our good friend Sergio Sabater was in town we put this event on the calendar to showcase the new releases from this great value oriented producer.

One of the things that I will never forget about my first trip to Spain is the wonderful cured ham known as Jamón and to me no Spanish wine tasting is complete without this unique and tasty Spanish treat.  Tonight, you have the opportunity to learn how to prepare this treat in your home as the only skill necessary other than the $$$ to buy the leg is the knowledge on how to properly slice it, thus our first wine tasting/Jamón slicing lesson.

This is a classroom style event with standing room for 25 at this event.  Toni Lampasone will be making a few tasting treats along with the Charcuterie and the fee for this event is $45 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com
