These tastings at the Cafe Maxx for $35 are the best value of any event that we do. You get to try 8 different wines at the same time, pre-poured so they have a chance to open up and so you can go back through the line-up to get a second and third look at everything. This is how you learn about wine and with master chef Oliver Saucy sending out a few small courses to accompany the wines, you get a taste of Cafe Maxx and an education in wine all at the same time. A great way to spend happy hour.

Tonight we will feature wines from one of the greatest wine varietals on the face of the earth- Nebbiolo.   This is a pre-poured sit down tasting and is limited to 25 tasters, the fee for this tasting is $35 + Gratuity + tax for reservations call 954-523-9463.

Ceretto Blange Arneis 2013
Price: $21.00    Sale $18.48    Case $215

Winery Notes: The White side of Piedmont wines 10% of all the bottles of Arneis produced in Piedmont are Blangè. One falls in love with Blangè, like with a beautiful woman, forever young. The Arneis, among the first ventures undertaken by the Bruno and Marcello Ceretto, has just celebrated its 26th birthday. It was 1985: a time at which it was difficult to envision a white wine in a land of great reds. For Ceretto, however, it was a challenge. And so, the first vineyard was purchased on the hillsides of Vezza d’Alba, where this rare, autochtonous grape variety indeed proved to be much more than just a new addition to the Ceretto collection. This famous white, fruity with a bit of effervescence, is appreciated worldwide, its curious French-inspired name evoking an idea of elegance. The name Blangé is derived from the word “boulanger,” or baker, from the French residing in the nearby village of Cherasco long ago. E voilà, pure and simple, beginning from its bold label, created by Milanese designer Silvio Coppola, designed to reveal, as through a seductive slit, the intense soul of Blangè.

Vajra Langhe Rosso 2012
Price: $15.00    Sale $13.20    Case $153

Primarily Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera then a blend with small quantities of Albarossa, Freisa and Pinot Noir.  A hue of violet red. Aromas of red fruits, plums, underbrush as well as oral and spicy fragrances intrigue your senses from the very rst moment. A nice correspondence on the palate where hints of almond, black pepper and Asian spices come together for a nice refreshing finish.

Vietti Perbacco Nebbiolo 2012
Price: $25.50    Sale $22.44    Case $261

There are between 25,000 to 30,000 bottles of the Perbacco produced. The name refers to an old expression that signifies a surprise, which is what this wine is when you find the quality is very surprising for the money. A beautiful bouquet here with an array of pretty floral notes, exotic spices, red berry fruit, lovely intensityof aromas and even better on the second day. Thick and chewy red berry fruit on the tongue with a silky smooth velvety texture on the tongue, this wine has layers of spice, earth and that ticvh liqueur like fruit all the way to the end, a bit tannic right now but with a few years in the bottle this wine will sing Finish 45+ Excellent +

Azelia Barolo DOCG 2011
Price: $43.25    Sale $37.11    Case $442

(90 Points)  "Azelia's 2011 Barolo is a delicious entry-level offering. Sweet red cherry, plum, spice, kirsch and hard candy are all laced together in the glass. Flashy and succulent yet medium in body, the 2011 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. There is a lot to like here. In 2011, Azelia did not make their RIserva; instead all of that fruit went into the straight Barolo bottling. Azelia's Barolo is a blend of fruit from six vineyards, approximately 70% Serralunga, 30% Castiglione Falletto fruit." Vinous

Monsecco  Pratogrande   Sizzano   2009
Price: $28.25  Sale $24.86  Case $ 289

This is a blend of the three varietals, Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Uva Rara, a very exotic bouquet with an array of exotic spices, dried flowers, and fresh earth, truffle, tar and more very complex. This wine has the best qualities of all three varietals with a solid amount of cherry berry fruit, intense spice and truffle/tar earthy notes and still quite tannic on the finish, this wine has incredible length at the end and I would assume that it will be better with 10+ years in the cellar. Finish 50+ Most Excellent +

Rovellotti   Ghemme  Chioso dei Pomi  2007
Price: $51.00  Sale $44.88  Case $521

A very intense bouquet of rose petals, black tar and earthy truffle like aromas with a good hand of ripe red cherry berry fruit. This is a single vineyard wine with the name of the vineyard on the bottle, classic piedmont bouquet. Big and chewy on the tongue with an array of red cherry liqueur like fruit, exotic spices and floral notes and a long finish that still has tannins to resolve but very balanced and long finish, this wine needs a lot of time to come together fully but has everything in proportion. Finish 50+ Most Excellent

Luigi Giordano Barbaresco Cavanna  2010
Price: $40.75  Sale $35.86  Case $416

Cavanna is the vineyard name on the river steep slope very different from the gold coast.  A good bit of fresh earth, truffle like notes on the nose, dried flowers, insence, spices very complex bouquet red cherry fruit.  A very pure style of Barbaresco with lots of juicy cherry berry fruit tangy acidity and an array of spices, truffle, red licorice and a long tannic finish but has lovely balance this wine needs an osso bucco with truffle risotto, this wine exudes the pure essence of the Piemdont. Finish 50+    Most Excellent

Oddero Barolo  Villero  2010
Price: $81.25  Sale $71.50  Case $829

Villero is from the commune of Castiglione Falletto and the vineyards are 50 years old. Only 3500 bottles are produced annually and the wine is aged in oak barrels for 30 months. The winery is located in Santa Maria, a hamlet of La Morra. Every generation has contributed to the buildings, while keeping intact the L-shaped outline, characteristic of Langhe farmhouses.
