"Wine in itself is an excellent thing" - Pope Pius XII 1876-1958

And we have a lot of good friends that make excellent wine.  One of our good friends from Napa Valley will be in town on November 10th and we just happen to have several older vintages of Ray Signorello's top wine Padrone in stock.  We also have a few vintages of his top Chardonnay here in the store so now we can also showcase how well some of the top whites show with a little time in the bottle.

Join us as we welcome Ray back to South Florida for a special evening of new releases from Signorello Winery along with some older vintage wines from this small estate in Napa Valley.  Chef Toni will be making a special menu to accompany the wines and the fee for this tasting which includes dinner is $250+ tax.  For reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

This is all estate bottled juice and this is one of the two Chardonnay's that they make at the winery, from 45 year old vines, aged on the lees and only 450 6pks produced. This wine has a very rich bouquet of tropical fruit, peaches, a flinty mineral character only 20% Malo and 20% new oak, bottled unfiltered.. A very rich and layered wine on the tongue, creamy with peach, a touch of lightly toasted oak spice with a firm hand of acidity holding things together nicely that minerality showing through on the finish.  Finish 45+  Most Excellent

2016 SIGNORELLO CHARDONNAY HOPE'S CUVEE
Price: $94.00       Your Price: $82.72            Quantity in Stock: 8
WINEMAKING NOTES Careful pressing of whole clusters minimized skin contact. This gentle process helped the wine achieve balance and develop a silky mouth-feel with enhanced aging potential. The wine fermented in French oak barrels with 50% undergoing malolactic fermentation, (Tonnelleries: Francois Frêres, Damy, Gauthier, and Latour Oak type: Allier and Troncais, medium and medium + toast). The wine then spent 10 months on the lees in French oak barrels (49 % new) prior to bottling without fining or filtration.
TASTING NOTES The 2016 Hope's Cuvée Chardonnay is rich, explosive and beautifully layered. Honey, almonds, orange blossoms and butterscotch all burst onto the palate in an elegant style Chardonnay with plenty of finish and refinement.

2009 SIGNORELLO CHARDONNAY HOPE'S CUVEE

A bit about Signorelly Winery

Ray Signorello Jr. began his journey as winemaker and vineyard owner in the Napa Valley during the mid 1980's. Ray, born in San Francisco, California, moved to Vancouver, Canada where the Signorello family continues to maintain a home. Ray divides his time between Napa, San Francisco, Vancouver and business related travel. Ray's father, Ray Sr., initiated the vineyard project during the mid 1970's by purchasing the 100-acre estate located on the Silverado Trail in the beautiful Napa Valley. Ray Sr. worked side by side with Ray Jr., establishing the winery's reputation for excellence until his passing in the fall of 1998.

What brought the Signorellos to the Napa Valley was the romantic side of winemaking; growing grapes, working the land, and enjoying the wine country lifestyle of camaraderie, good wine and great meals. While the Valley lifestyle is a very real part of the business, there is a serious responsibility to making a dream become a reality, both father and son realized this fact early in the endeavor

Signorellos' original plan was to grow quality grapes to sell to existing wineries, but the harvest of 1985 changed this plan into a new level of evolvement. The bountiful crop allowed Signorellos to custom crush the excess grapes. This opportunity demonstrated what fabulous wine their vineyards were capable of producing. The project continues to grow, as do the spectacular 42 acres planted in several different varietals. Ray's continuing effort represents the invested energies that created this reality from a dream.
In 1986 the Signorellos began the second phase of the venture, this was the building of the main winery structure. This beautiful building is used for barrel storage, wine tasting and retail sales. Along with the building of the winery, wine production was expanded to include Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. By the end of the 1980's the Signorello family was thoroughly committed to making wine as well as growing grapes.

The decade of the nineties proved to be pivotal for Signorello Estate. In 1990 the first planting of red varietals began on the property- Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah.

Their approach to making wines is based on the idea of "winegrowing," which comes from the old French word vigneron.  It means that everything done in the vineyards is intimately connected to the winemaking techniques determined by the Signorello house style.  They strive for lush fruit in the vineyards; in the winery they focus on elegance, balance, and depth. Their preferences and tastes in wine are decidedly Burgundian; their ultimate goals are noble indeed.  The Signorellos want rich Chardonnays that emulate those of producers such as Domaine Comte Lafon and Domaine Leflaive and pure Pinot Noirs that can compare to those of Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Domaine Dujac.

After establishing a premium brand under the Signorello moniker Ray wanted to establish a more everyday brand that would be an introduction to their style of wines but at a more affordable price.

The main reason behind EDGE is to give Signorello's customers a premium Cabernet Sauvignon, without the premium price. EDGE is one of the most reasonable Cabernet Sauvignons that one will find on the shelf, it stared out as a Napa Valley wine but they now source the grapes from the Alexander Valley to give the best possible value which does not compromise on quality.

Then there was Trim which adds aother option in terms of price/value to the line-up of wines under the Signorello portfolio.
