“A fruit is a vegetable with looks and money. Plus, if you let fruit rot, it turns into wine, something brussel sprouts never do.”

? P. J. O’Rourke

We still have a few seats left for our annual new release tasting of Brunello Di Montalcino tomorrow night!  Check out the line-up of 2011 and the highly anticipated 2010 vintage Riserva Brunello di Montalcino that we are serving here at Wine Watch.

I never turn down a chance to drink great wines with some of the industry’s top wine personalities and we have two of them next Thursday night!

Café Maxx will be hosting Tom Hinde from Au Contrare and Heritance Winery the newest project from the Taub family, owners of Palm Bay Imports.   Although this label is new, the Heritance Winery has already produced a KILLER wine (which is my 100 point score) with the 2012 Beckstorffer Georges III Cabernet Sauvignon and we are serving it tonight at this event!

Wine Watch is hosting María José the winemaker for Luca and La Posta two wineries from Mendoza here at the store with an Argentina style walk around Asado wine tasting.  You can’t do both but I have to, it’s my job!!

Yes !!  We have two events on the same night!!!

Luca Chardonnay 2012
Price: $36.00    Sale $31.681    Case $368

(92 Points) "The 2012 G Lot Chardonnay is produced from high-altitude Chardonnay grapes grown in a corner in Gualtallary (hence the ‘G’). It has a very fresh Burgundian nose with aromas of nuts, tangerine, white peach and orange rind. To get the style for this wine (and for the White Bones and White Stones from Catena) they consulted with Meursault guru Jean-Mac Roulot, so you can have an idea of the style here. Only part of the wine ages in barrels and it has a little ripe nose. The palate is medium-bodied, ripe (the style of the 2012 vintage!), but with good freshness and acidity, especially for a warm vintage. "  The Wine Advocate

Luca Pinot Noir 2012
Price: $37.00    Sale $32.56    Case $378

(92 Points) "The 2012 G Lot Pinot Noir is produced with fruit from Gualtallary, a high altitude, chalky-rich soil vineyard in the Uco Valley. It has a ripe nose of red fruit, more Cote de Beaune than Cote de Nuits, with aromas of Morello cherries, sour notes, and some subtle spice aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, with very good acidity, definitively Burgundian. This is a very good Pinot Noir."  The Wine Advocate

Luca Syrah 2011
Price: $27.00    Sale $23.76    Case $276

(91 Points) "Good full, deep red-ruby. Dark berries, kirsch, blackberry, dark chocolate, mocha and smoked meat on the nose, plus a whiff of leather. Sweet, lush, pliant and full, with a strong chocolatey ripeness to the intense dark berry flavors. Chewy, mouthfilling syrah from 50-year-old vines (the vine cuttings orginally came from the northern and southern Rhone Valley). Finishes big and broad, with furry tannins and a hint of game." Vinous / Antonio Galloni

Luca Malbec 2013
Price: $35.00    Sale $30.80    Case $357

(91 Points) "The 2013 Malbec comes from two old vineyards in La Consulta (Rosas and Paganoto) and some 30% from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. It has a nose of smoke and peat intermixed with violets, plums and dark cherries. The palate has a fine texture shaped by sweet, round tannins and good freshness. This is a very tasty Malbec."  The Wine Advocate

Luca Beso de Dante 2012
Price: $41.00    Sale $36.08    Case $419

(91 Points)  "Bright medium ruby. Complex aromas of cassis, spicy herbs and mint. Concentrated, sweet and fine-grained, but with the Cabernet herbacity currently dominating the Malbec dark berries and chocolate. Conveys less easy sweetness than the 2013 Malbec but shows more lift and better oak integration. Spreads out nicely to saturate the palate on the lively, firmly tannic finish. I like this style." La Posta Paulucci 2014
Price: $15.75    Sale $13.86    Case $161

Vibrant red color with aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and violets waft from the glass along with notes of toasty oak. On the palate, the fresh berry flavors mingle with spice notes and there's a hint of soft caramel on the finish. This is a creamy, medium-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life. It goes great with everything from hamburgers and chicken to pasta and mild cheeses. Unique recipe ideas include duck and smoked pork cassoulet, lamb burger with aged manchego and smoked paprika, or caramelized onion and butternut squash tart with goat cheese and thyme.

La Posta Pizzella 2014
Price: $15.75    Sale $13.86    Case $161

(90 Points) The 2014 Malbec Pizzella Vineyard is from Altamira. The vineyard was originally 17 hectares and the owner planted an additional 12 (and is planting yet more), so there is room to grow. This is the most harmonious, elegant, and at the same time backward, of the three single-vineyard Malbecs. Not as showy as the others in the palate either as the tannins are austere and the chalky minerality sticks to your teeth. The differences between the three Malbecs is clear as they each reflect where the grapes grow. The riper, warmer one from Ugarteche, the fresher, higher acidity wine from Tupungato and the one with more depth from here (Altamira)." The Wine Advocate
