If God forbade drinking, would He have made wine so good?
Bordeaux is one of our favorite wines and although the first growths and other top wines of Pomerol carry a hefty price tag you can still find a few great values even among some of the classified growths in Pauillac, Margaux and St Julien.
On Thursday March 8th at the Wine Watch Wine Bar we have Augustin Lacaille the director of three great Chateau from the left bank; Chateau D’Issan, Chateau Pedesclaux and Chateau Lilian Ladouys who all offer exceptional quality at a reasonable price.
Then, the greatest value in the world of sweet wines is Sauternes and you can find 10 and 20 year-old releases like the two on this offering in the $50 price range. We have Chateau Guiraud sweets to finish the night.
This tasting is $125 + tax and this includes all 12 wines below and dinner! For reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail email@example.com

2014 G Chateau Guiraud Bordeaux Blanc
Price: $23.50 Sale Price: $19.25
The only make 150,000 bottles, this is 105 hectare estate and they are in the city between the Church and Chateau D'Yquem, this was the first growth to be classified and this means that the wine is from the region and it must be sweet and the appellation here is Bordeaux dry white wine because of the dryness and they do not have the Moilleux level but there is a minimum level of sweetness to a Sauternes 120 grams per liter. A lovely savory character to the palate with a good amount of fruit, melon, white grape fruit, quince, a gravelly mineral nuance, a rich texture on the tongue, good weight in the mid palate, and a lovely freshness to the finish a long mineral laced finish. A blend of 50/50 Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc they have specific parcels in the vineyard that are dedicated to making this dry wine, tart finish, could use a bit of time and shows much better on the second day, a great introduction to the dry whites of Sauternes! Finish 40+ Excellent (89-91 Points) "The G de Guiraud 2014 has quite a complex bouquet with lively citrus fruit intermixed with sea cave scents. There is something almost marine-like here. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, appreciable weight in the mouth with light green apple and spice notes emerging toward the finish. This is how to do dry white Sauternes." Chateau Lilian Ladouys St Estephe 2014
Price: $35.50 Sale $31.24 Case $363
(90 Points) The 2014 Lilian Ladouys 2014 has a crisp, masculine, tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, briary and cedar emerging with aeration. There is clearly prudent use of oak here, complementing rather than dominating the wine. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a pleasant sous-Bois note underpinning the layers of cedary black fruit and a touch of spiciness on the finish. This comes highly recommended plus great value. Tasted February 2017. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Château Pedesclaux Pauillac 2015
Price: $61.25 Sale $53.90 Case $624.75
(90 points) The 2015 Pedesclaux is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot that spent 18 months in barrel, 60% new and 40% one year old. Medium garnet-purple in color, it has an earthy nose with dried herbs and garrigue notes over a core of red currants and black berries plus a touch of cedar chest. The medium-bodied palate is fine and fresh with juicy red and black fruits and a chewy finish. (LPB) (2/2018) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Château Pedesclaux Pauillac 2010
Price: $70.50 Sale $62.04 Case $720
(91 Points) A solid core of cassis and blackberry fruit is liberally framed by dark cocoa and espresso notes and carried through the caressing, blueberry-, spice- and licorice-filled finish. A modern style that will have fans for sure. Wine Spectator
Moulin d’Issan Margaux 2015
This is from the vineyards on Clay and right across the road from the appellation of Margaux, 90% Merlot with a beautiful bouquet of fresh earth, cigar box spice, red currant and plum. A very fresh and balanced style with notes of fresh earth, plum and a touch of tobacco on the finish. Finish 35+ Very Good
Haut Medoc d’Issan 2014
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from vineyards across the street from their vineyards in Margaux. The nose has a bit of a green herbal note with hints of cedar coffee and red currant, plum and fresh earth nice complexity on nose. On the palate this wine has fine tannins, very smooth, with red currant and plum fruit, that cigar box spice, earth and herbs lasting through the finish. Finish 40+ Very Good +
Château d’Issan Margaux 2009
Price: $146.00 Sale $128.48 Case $1490
(93 Points) A strong effort from proprietor Emmanuel Cruse, d’Issan’s 2009 was fashioned from minuscule yields of 18 hectoliters per hectare, and its 13.7% natural alcohol set a record at this estate. Composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot, it exhibits a classic Margaux fragrance of acacia flowers/violets, blueberries, cassis, licorice and camphor. Opulent and full-bodied with silky tannins as well as a rich, dense style, it will be interesting to compare the 2009 with the brilliant 2000 and 2005 over the next two to three decades. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2035+. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Château d’Issan Margaux 2012
Price: $107.50 Sale $94.60 Case $1097
(95 Points) The 2012 Château d’Issan, builds on the richness of the second wine and adds more body, structure and density. It has an inky purple color and a stunning nose of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as touches of incense and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, this 2012 is a great success in the vintage, one of the superstars. Moreover, its precociousness suggests it could be drunk in the next 4-5 years or cellared through 2025. I underrated this wine dramatically in my report of April, 2013 (Issue 206). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Chateau d’Issan Margaux 2014
Price: $86.50 Sale $76.12 Case $883
(94 Points) Still feels very much on the primary fruit. Oh this should really develop beautifully – high and tight tannins, good acidity, good fruit, maybe lacks a little luxurious texture but seems to be quivering on the leash, ready to spring out of the box. Dark fruit on the nose, blackberry, with liquorice and even hints of tar. A young, big wine with ambition, and definite promise. Chewier tannins than many on display. Decanter
2013 Petit Guiraud Sauternes
The second wine of Château Guiraud and made by Xavier Planty, Château Guiraud's oenologist since 1982. It is a modern style with a high proportion of Sauvignon Blanc (approximately one third), made from a blend of lots fermented in stainless steel (for minerality and freshness), and new French oak barrels, which promote the development of richness, body, and intensity of flavor on the palate. Guiraud has employed organic farming methods since 1996, and obtained organic certification in 2011.
2008 Chateau Guiraud Sauternes
Price: $59.75 Sale $52.58 Case $610
2008 Chateau Guiraud Sauternes (375ml)
Price: $35.75 Sale $31.46 Case $365
(93 Points) Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. It is clear that the aromatics on the 2008 are a little simpler and more straightforward than the 2007 with honeysuckle, jasmine and mango scents emerging with time. The palate is ripe and precise on the entry with well-integrated oak that is in sync with the lemon curd and apricot fruit. There is a lovely sweetness on the finish with a hint of spice lingering in the mouth. As I wrote last year – sublime. Drink 2017-2030+. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
1998 Chateau Guiraud Sauternes
Price: $67.50 Sale $59.40 Case $689
(90 points) Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. The 1998 Guiraud does not possess the vigor of the 1997, but it has an attractive nose of melted candle wax, brown sugar and marmalade that blossoms in the glass. The palate is clean and pure on the entry with crisp acidity. It is a more feminine, lithe Sauternes compared to the 1997 with a pretty peach and dried apricot finish interlaced with spice. Fine. Drink now-2020. Tasted April 2013.- Neal Martin (06/2013) Wine Advocate
