If God forbade drinking, would He have made wine so good?
Cardinal Richeleu
Bordeaux is one of our favorite wines and although the first growths and other top wines of Pomerol and Saint Emilion carry a hefty price tag you can still find a few great values even among some of the classified growths in St. Estephe, Margaux, St Julien and the Haut Medoc.
After the success of the last few week’s “Happy Hour” tastings, we have decided to carry on this casual event over the summer and this tasting is a belly up to the bar, hang out with your friends. The food is casual, this is not a sit-down dinner- a true “Happy Hour” style event mix and immingle with our “Wine Drinking People” but with GREAT wines. Tonight, we have a great selection of Bordeaux wines from the dry whites to cellar worthy reds and of course no Bordeaux tasting is complete without the great sweet wines like Sauternes or Barsac.
This tasting starts at 6pm and chef Toni will be making some appetizers to accompany the tasting wines. The fee for this tasting is $95 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.
Happy Hour Wine Tasting Featuring Bordeaux
Thursday, June 19, 2025
6:00 PM
B&G Crémant de Bordeaux AOC Crémant de Bordeaux Contrôlée
Price: $20.00 Sale $17.16
Beautiful pale yellow colour with brilliant reflections, its fine bubbles reveal a foam that is both light and persistent. On the nose it develops aromas of white flesh fruits and citrus enhanced by brioche and vanilla notes.
2020 Thomas Barton Reserve Blanc Graves
Price: $19.50 Your Price: $17.16
Sight: Bright straw yellow color with greenish hue and high viscosity. Nose: Flattering nose with aromas of tropical fruits such as litchi and ripe pineapple. After swirling, the wine reveals sweet citrus notes like tangerine and kumquat. Palate: Fresh and vibrant palate yet rich and opulent. Flavors of white blossom linger on the creamy finish
2013 Chateau Lassegue Saint Emilion
Price: $45.00 Your Price: $39.60
(90 Points) "It is in the most difficult vintages that you see the winemaker's hand; the length on this wine comes not from the depth of the fruit but from the gentle spicy notes of nutmeg and white pepper. Raspberry leaf and smoked earth comes through as things open. Helped in this vintage by the fact that the Seillans live on site, making it easier to treat at weekends, and this was a vintage when you certainly needed to do that" - Decanter
2020 Chateau Lassegue Saint Emilion
Price: $75.00 Your Price: $66.00
(95 Points) Wide, powdery, fine but firm tannins; a lovely density to this. Concentrated and intense, very straight and streamlined. Finessed and focused. Clearly powerful, the energy is apparent, but all the elements are kept quite tight and controlled, so you're not getting so much expansion or nuance necessarily. Still, well worked with clarity to the fruit and tannins. Wet stone, liquorice, toasted caramel all giving elements of wood but integrated and supportive. Feels like a sleeping giant, will be good in time, sleek and stylish. Decanter
2019 Aspirant de Beychevelle Saint Julien
Price: $46.25 Your Price: $40.70
Aspirant de Beychevelle was created recently by Château Beychevelle, 4th Classified Growth from Saint-Julien, in collaboration with Castel Grands Crus. Clearly, the idea was to make a fruit-forward wine that can be enjoyed young, but also to reveal the elegance of the great Saint Julien terroir.
2018 Chevalier De Lascombes Margaux
Price $59.25 Sale $50.36
(90 Points) Cedar and cassis, with clear concentration to the aromatics and on the attack. Attractive with well-placed cassis fruits. You can see the potential with a few more years in bottle, but a little abrupt through the finish. Vinous Media
2016 CHATEAU LARRIVET HAUT BRION ROUGE PESSAC LEOGNAN
Price: $75.00 Your Price: $66.00
(93 Points) Also terrific, the 2016 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion is in the same league as the 2015 and offers a perfectly balanced, medium to full-bodied style as well as complex notes of red and black fruits, smoke tobacco, incense, and cedar. It picks up a Graves-induced cold fireplace note as it sits in the glass, and again, is a beautifully balanced, layered 2016 that has loads of character. Give bottles a few years and enjoy over the following 15+. Jeb Dunnuck Review Date: 02/2019
2022 Chateau Lascombes Margaux
Price: $95.25 Your Price: $83.82
(96 Points) Based on 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Château Lascombes pulls from 40% of the total production and was aged 18 months mostly in barrels (60% new) with a small portion in foudre. This inky hued beauty boasts a rich, concentrated, full-bodied, well-oaked style as well as pure cassis and darker berry fruits, some graphite, scorched earth, and licorice nuances, terrific overall balance, and a great finish. Jeb Dunnuck
2021 Clos Floridene Graves Blanc
Price: $33.00 Your Price: $29.04
(93 points) Bright and lively in the glass, tangy and sharp but so well balanced with intensity yet softness, getting the liveliness and energy but also complexity of flavour - lemon, pineapple, apricot and peach - sharp, almost sour, so tangy and zesty in the glass just shining brightly. This is extremely aromatic and flavourful with a persistence that lasts the whole way through. I also like the really soft honeyed lemon touch that runs underneath the more overt acidity. A solid effort. Tasted twice. (GH) (3/2022) Decanter
2020 Clos Magne Figeac St Emilion
Price: $24.00 Your Price: $21.12
Winemaker Notes: A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc on this sanguine red evokes red berries and black currants across a spicy cedar nose. Crushed forest fruit notes on the palate merge effortlessly with softened tannins. This wine is generous, well structured, with a lovely and well developed bouquet. Some Sweet pipe, leather, black and red berries.
2020 Chateau La Grave Figeac Grand Cru Saint Emilion, France
Price: $59.00 Sale Price: $45.00
(92 Points) A blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 La Grave-Figeac exhibits aromas of cherries, spices and sweet soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, broad but lively palate. It's a strong effort from a property in the ascendant, farmed organically by the former owners of Nenin and l'Evangile. The Wine Advocate
2016 Chateau Chantalouette Pomerol
Price: $39.00 Your Price: $34.32
2nd label of Chateau de Sales
62 % Merlot, 21.5% Cabernet Franc, 16.5% Cabernet Sauvignon An attractive ruby red, the wine has a fresh nose dominated by ripe fruit aromas. The elegant, beautifully fresh and rounded palate on red fruit flavours leads into a long finish underpinned by creamy, highly refined tannins.
2023 Chateau La Freynelle Blanc Bordeaux
Price: $18.75 Your Price: $16.50
(88 Points) Fresh and lively, with good zip running underneath its mix of verbena, lemon gelee, yellow apple and fennel notes. Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle. Drink now. 12,000 cases made, 8,000 cases imported. Wine Spectator
2021 Chateau Mongravey Margaux
Price: $48.75 Your Price: $42.90
(93 Points) This is the latest release from this family-run estate in Margaux. A rich wine, it's still shot through with acidity and fresh black currant fruits. The wine is just setting out on its development. Drink from 2027. Cellar Selection, Wine Enthusiast
2019 Chateau Haut Rocher Saint Emilion
Price: $31.50 Your Price: $27.72
(92 Points) Composed of 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2019 Haut Rocher has a flamboyant nose of baked raspberries, blueberry pie and warm plums plus suggestions of red roses, forest floor, powdered cinnamon and sage. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-filling red and black fruit preserves with ripe, rounded tannins and racy acid to support, finishing long and mineral tinged. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
2022 Chateau Lalande Borie St Julien
Price: $56.25 Your Price: $49.50
This 2022 vintage is quite simply extraordinary. Balance, rich tannins, aromatic expression (black fruit) and freshness are the watchwords here. Gentle extraction during fermentation was undoubtedly key to revealing the quintessential characteristics of each grape variety.
Blend: 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
2019 Chateau Vieux Maillet Pomerol
Price: $75.00 Your Price: $66.00
(94 Points) Savoury tones on the nose, some salinity and truffle alongside perfumed blackcurrant fruit. Savouriness on the palate too here, this is quite expansive with layers of dark and dried fruits but also a saltiness that is so appealing. The texture is lovely, just velvety and smooth, it courses across the palate, mouth coating but in a gentle and fine way. Good persistence, richly fruited and mineral with excellent overall freshness. One I wanted another glass of. 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Decanter
2022 Chateau Laribotte Sauternes (375ML)
Price: $22.50 Your Price: $19.80
Brilliant golden robe. Attractive complex nose of acacias, white flowers, lemon, and a touch of honey. Light, fruity mouth with flavors of candied fruits and dry apricots. Long on the palate with backbone, reflecting good acidic balance. Excellent ageing potential.
