If God forbade drinking, would He have made wine so good?
Cardinal Richeleu
Bordeaux is one of our favorite wines and although the first growths and other top wines of Pomerol carry a hefty price tag you can still find a few great values even among some of the classified growths in St. Estephe, Margaux, St Julien and the Medoc.
The first chance for the trade to taste the latest vintage from France’s most famous wine region is in late March/early April when the Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux puts on a tasting to showcase the last years harvest. We will be tasting the 2018 vintage and many people are giving this vintage very high praise some saying it may be even better than 2015, 2016 and 2017!
In efforts to get ready for my travels to Bordeaux I will be hosting a tasting featuring wines from every major appellation from both the right and left bank. Most people associate Bordeaux only with red wine, but they also make some of the best Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon based whites as well as one of the best examples of dessert wine on the planet.
Join us as we explore the world of Bordeaux wines there will 30+ different wines on the table this evening. This tasting is a walk around tasting in the wine cave here at Wine Watch and the fee for this event is $55 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

2017 G Chateau Guiraud Bordeaux Blanc
Price: $20.75 Sale Price: $18.26
The only make 150,000 bottles, this is 105 hectare estate and they are in the city between the Church and Chateau D'Yquem, this was the first growth to be classified and this means that the wine is from the region and it must be sweet and the appellation here is Bordeaux dry white wine because of the dryness and they do not have the Moilleux level but there is a minimum level of sweetness to a Sauternes 120 grams per liter. A lovely savory character to the palate with a good amount of fruit, melon, white grape fruit, quince, a gravelly mineral nuance, a rich texture on the tongue, good weight in the mid palate, and a lovely freshness to the finish a long mineral laced finish. A blend of 50/50 Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc they have specific parcels in the vineyard that are dedicated to making this dry wine, tart finish, could use a bit of time and shows much better on the second day, a great introduction to the dry whites of Sauternes! Finish 40+ Excellent
Moulin d’Issan Margaux 2016
Price: $19.75 Sale $17.38
This is from the vineyards on Clay and right across the road from the appellation of Margaux, 90% Merlot with a beautiful bouquet of fresh earth, cigar box spice, red currant and plum. A very fresh and balanced style with notes of fresh earth, plum and a touch of tobacco on the finish. Finish 35+ Very Good
1998 Chateau Guiraud Sauternes
Price: $69.00 Sale $60.72
(90 points) Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. The 1998 Guiraud does not possess the vigor of the 1997, but it has an attractive nose of melted candle wax, brown sugar and marmalade that blossoms in the glass. The palate is clean and pure on the entry with crisp acidity. It is a more feminine, lithe Sauternes compared to the 1997 with a pretty peach and dried apricot finish interlaced with spice. Fine. Drink now-2020. Tasted April 2013.- Neal Martin (06/2013) Wine Advocate
