Price: $18.75/btl.              $6.50/GL (7 Ounces)

A Gutswein is the excellent entry-level wine in the VDP quality hierarchy of wines of designated origin. Grapes come from the estate’s own vineyards. Winemaker Nik Weis from Wine Estate St. Urbans-Hof on the Mosel and Martin Foradori Hofstätter from Wine Estate J. Hofstätter in South Tyrol seized the welcome opportunity to participate in a joint ownership with Johannes Fischer of the historic Weingut Dr. Fischer. The estate in Ockfen on the Saar River is famed for its Riesling and is a founding member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingu?ter (VDP). “In the greatest vintages, the best Mosel wine comes from the Saar,” is a regional vintner saying.

Third Course
Foie Torchon with Brioche Toast and Black Pepper Current Jam

2013 Torbreck Vintners “The Struie” Barossa Eden Valley Shiraz Barossa
Price: $54.75/btl.              $18.75/GL (7 Ounces)

The Eden Valley lies within the Barossa Range and consists of river valleys and undulating hills covered with large gums, rocky outcrops and Aboriginal sites. It is a high-altitude area of between 400 and 500 metres, compared with the Barossa Valley's elevation of 200 to 300 metres. This higher altitude, with its (one to two weeks) later ripening pattern, results in more distinctive varietal flavour characteristics, lower pH and higher acidities. Whilst the Eden Valley region is most associated with the white wine variety, Riesling, it produces elegant, tautly structured Shiraz which is highly prized by winemakers.

This Torbreck Shiraz cuvée from the cooler climate, higher altitude vineyards of Eden Valley is skillfully blended with fruit from Barossa Valley which traditionally provides greater richness and intensity. A blend of 44 year old Eden Valley Shiraz vines and 80 year old Barossa Shiraz, The Struie is aged for 18 months in a combination of old and new French oak barriques prior to bottling.

Fourth Course
Parmesan Dusted Pork Belly with Orange Honey Marmalade

2011 Paul Blanck Riesling Furstentum Grand Cru Alsace
Price: $39.00/btl.              $13.50/GL (7 ounces)

Bright straw-green. Tropical fruit, lime, passion fruit and minerals on the enticing nose. Deep, exotic flavors of ripe citrus and tropical fruits are large-scaled and almost fat, but although this riesling finishes rich, ripe and long, it maintains a suave quality thanks to its low pH (3.14) and enamel-piercing acidity. I barely noticed the 14 grams per liter of residual sugar. Ian D'Agata - Score 92 - Nov.2012

2015 Weingut Keller Kirchspiel Riesling RR Germany
Price: $60.00/btl.              $20.50/GL (7 ounces)

"The wine comes from one of Keller's Grand Cru sites, Kirchspiel, but it's a parcel that's particularly high in iron, thus the soil is a deeper, richer red than the rest of the vineyard. The acidity is always higher here than the rest of the limestone-rich vineyard so in certain vintages he makes a wine with a little residual sugar.
VDP rules don't allow for a GG wine labeled Kirchspiel and a slightly off-dry wine labeled Kirchspiel in the same vintage, so he doesn't list the vineyard site. The two Rs are a little tough to explain but basically refer to the fact that it is a "reserve" wine from a grand cru parcel, and the fact that the soil is "red" or "rot"

2014 FX Pichler Riesling Kellerberg Smargd Austria
Price: $97.50/btl.              $32.50/btl. (7 Ounces)

There is an international consensus that this is the absolute model vineyard. This vertiginous, barren and purist primitive rock terrace, which is exposed from south to south-east and located at the exit of a side valley, creates a very special microclimate. The Kellerberg vineyard is already pampered by the sun early in the morning. During night, cool air streaming in from the bordering woods fosters the development of the complex texture and delicately nuanced, usually exotic aromas and flavors typical of this wine. In fall, large temperature differences between day and night shape the grapes. Honey melon, mango, passion fruit, banana and fully ripe peach, concise minerally notes as a dowry of the meager, weathered soil, and the extremely deeply rooting old vines make the wines of this site unparalleled and outstanding. We are fascinated about the wines from Kellerberg due to their filigree elegance, which can hardly be expressed in words.

Fifth Course
Parmesan Dusted Pork Belly with Blackberry Coulis

2011 Craggy Range Le Sol Hawks Bay New Zealand

The soils are the important thing here and this old vine Syrah is incredibly rich with an array of dark plum, black cherry liqueur like fruit, dark spices, bittersweet coco, fresh plowed dark earth and some game like animal notes, violet floral notes, a little monster. Wow this wine is incredibly rich and decadent on the tongue with a solid core of ripe black plum and dark cherry liqueur like fruit, an array of dark spices, earth and espresso and bitter coco at the end, long layered finish, but but lovely balance and freshness. Finish 50+ Most Excellent +

2014 Sine Qua Non Syrah Piranha Waterdance
Price: $250.00/Btl.            $85/GL (7 Ounces)

(97-100 Points) "The 2014 Syrah Piranha Waterdance is young and unevolved (more than the Grenache) and sports an inky blue color to go with lots of minerality, notes of cassis, violets and pepper, full-bodied richness and a surprisingly serious, structured, even masculine vibe on the palate. A blend of 81% Syrah, 8% Petite Sirah and the rest Mourvedre, Touriga Nacional and Graciano, fermented with 26% whole clusters and aging in 54% new French oak, it will be bottled just after the Grenache, in April of next year.
