2006 La Spinetta Barbaresco Bordini Vineyard

The vineyard and the cru is named Bordini and Giorgio's father was good friends with Mr. Bordini and was after him to sell this prized vineyard in the Neive region of Barbaresco, but he would not sell until after Giorgio's father's death when Mr. Bordini offered to sell Giorgio the vineyard. Thinking that he would want some crazy price for the land as one hectare of vineyards in an area like this would cost upwards of $1,000,000. The money was not important to Mr. Bordini at the ripe old age of 92 today he still works in the vineyard and drinks a bottle of his wine every day, the most important thing was that his name is on the bottle and that Giorgio puts his wine in every market where La Spinetta is sold. So fame not fortune for Bordini was important as he has no heirs and likes to know that his name will live on in perpetuity through this new wine from La Spinetta which bears his name.

This is the first vintage of Bordini and this wine has a lovely floral and fruity nose violet raspberry and mint notes, red licorice notes. A concentrated and rich wine on the palate with smooth round tannins and even though it is drinking nice right now it should age for up to 10 years or more in the cellar, fine chalky tannins coming in at the end. Some smoke and meaty notes coming out on the second day. Finish 45 Excellent
