2018 Bisol Cartizze

Color of straw yellow with a fine, lively and persistent perlage. Elegant with scents of wildflowers, pleasantly fruity with notes of apples, pears and peaches. Flavor savoury, full and balanced; its sweetness is contained and accompanied by an intense and elegant fruitiness.


2017 Cogno Nascetta
Price: $18.50    Sale $16.28

Anas-Cëtta is an invented name that was used initially because the wine was not a DOC. (In Italy it is not possible to use the varietal name if the wine is not DOC.) That changed in 2010, when Nascetta of Novello gained DOC status. Since the first limited production in 1994, the Elvio Cogno winery has drawn upon the knowledge of the old-timers in Novello to make a wine for the youth of today.


2012 Biondi-Santi Annata Brunello Di Montalcino

(96 points) Underbrush, ripe berry, new leather and Mediterranean herb aromas slowly take shape in the glass. Showing youthful tension, the vibrant palate delivers red cherry, pomegranate, white pepper and pipe tobacco notes framed by bright acidity and taut, refined tannins. 2015 Montoni Vrucara

Vrucara is the name of the cru from which the grapes hail. The name has its origins in a vineyard of which the land has always been called “Vrucara.” It takes this name due to the presence of vruca, a Sicilian word for a bush that grows spontaneously around the vineyard. This herb has aromas of menthol mixed with those of incense oil. Transferred into the old, unique vines, we notice this aroma in the wine.


2016 Volpaia Balifico

2014 Tenuta dei Sette Cieli Indaco Toscana IGT

2013 Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco 25th Anniversary

(94 Points) Marco Caprai strikes again with yet another beautiful vintage of his top-shelf red. The 2013 Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni is a darkly saturated and thickly extracted wine with a full and generous style. The wine is redolent of dark fruit, tobacco and smoky barbecue. However, the real protagonist is spice: baking and Christmas spice, to be exact. The wine is firmly structured with some tannic astringency that will soften with extra cellar aging. - ML Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2017

 

2013 Dal Forno Amarone della Valpoicella

(98 Points)  The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Monte Lodoletta is my favorite wine in the retrospective, along with the amazing 2011, 2009 and 1996 vintages. This wine was released at the beginning of this year, and because Dal Forno skipped over the 2014 vintage, this is the only Amarone we will see for a while (until the highly anticipated 2015 is released). The 2013 vintage is characterized by a slightly more streamlined mouthfeel (which isn't saying much given the baseline enormity of these wines) with carefully etched aromas of black cherry, rum cake, dark chocolate and toasted espresso. The 2013 vintage was balanced overall without the sudden heat waves we saw in the summers of 2011 and 2012. The grapes finished a slow and steady ripening process over an extended growing season. The effect is graceful and focused. Put this bottle aside in your cellar for the decades to come.  Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
