I thank god for my children every day. Without them I’d never know how well red wine complements chicken nuggets.

After moving all the wine in the store twice now we are finally putting it into the final resting place at 837 NE 3rd Avenue the new digs across the street from the Progresso Plaza where Wine Watch resided for the last 35 years. We open the new chapter of the store’s existence with our annual Chardonnay tasting Thursday May 24th and even though its summer year-round we start to focus on white wines in the spring time. That means it’s time for our annual “Ultimate Vintage White” tasting where we showcase older whites that are 20+ years of age.
White wine does not seem to get the same attention from collectors as red. We are guilty of giving red more attention than white as ¾ of our inventory is the color red.
Recognition of the problem is half of the battle and we will give the great whites of the world their due beginning tonight we will add this Ultimate White tasting to our annual line-up of wine tasting events. This is all a part of the valuable scientific wine research that we are doing here at the Wine Watch, we need to know how long you can age white wine for.
Come and find out how these great whites are doing as every wine on the table tonight will be 20+ years old and everything is white! Toni Lampasone will be making a special meal to accompany the tasting wines and the fee for this event is $125 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463.
For those of you that can’t make it I have included all the old white Burgundy that we have in the store, I would include all the other old whites but that’s all we have 10+ years old other than Sauternes and Champagne in the white category other than what’s on the table tonight.

1996 Lopez de heredia Vina Tondonia Blanc Grand Reserve Rioja
Price: $130.50 Your Price: $110.92
(95 Points) Still unreleased (the 1994 has just been launched and this will be sold in 2016), the 1996 Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva is a wine crafted to show the longevity of the wines produced with the grapes from the Tondonia vineyard in Haro. It follows the same path as the other Grandes Reservas, being a blend of grapes (mostly Viura and some 10% Malvasía Riojana) and up to 15% of wine from other vintages used to refill the barrels during the extended ten-year aging. This is more subtle, less expressive than the 1994, and is also lighter and in need of bottle age to develop more complexity. Still, I don't think it will get to the same level as the 1994. The 1996 harvest was a bit shorter, and 6,451 bottles were produced. The Wine Advocate
1995 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc
Price: $325.00 Sale Price: $250.00 Quantity in Stock: 6
(95 points) The ’95 is one my favorite white Hermitages from Chave, although I would offer that this magnum was not quite as ethereal as the bottle opened in London last year. Still, it has a complex bouquet with candle wax, honeycomb, peach and lime leaf, very well defined and vigorous. The palate is more expansive than the 1996 although it does not quite have the same level of tension. Lemon curd, dried pineapple and beeswax towards the persistent finish, this is still a superb expression of white Hermitage. (NM) (7/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
1995 Madame François Colin Chassagne-Montrachet Clos Devant
Price: $85.00 Sale Price: $69.00 Quantity in Stock: 3
This is a bit old for a village wine but that's why we do tese events, sometimes you get a pleasant surprise from these simple village wines from a great small producer.
1996 Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet
Price: $75.00 Sale Price: $50.00 Quantity in Stock: 1
One of the top producers of white Burgundy and this should be a nice comparison to the village Chassagne.
1996 Olivier Leflaive Puligny Montrachet
Price: $47.75 Sale $42.02 Quantity in Stock: 3
Situated in the center of the Côte de Beaune, the Puligny-Montrachet appellation is among the most celebrated white wines in the world. The soils are calcareous clay, rich in pebbles with good drainage and excellent exposure to the sun. It is a glorious wine of very distinct aromas: almond paste, ferns, exotic fruit, white flowers with discreet acidity on the palate and a smooth, impressively long finish.
1990 Louis Jadot Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
List Price: $195.00 Sale $171.60 Quantity in Stock: 1
Located in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet, the center of the four communes comprising the renowned Côte des Blancs, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet has eastern exposure and a chalky soil that is quite heavy on the surface. Chardonnay grapes are fermented in oak barrels and aged an average of 18 months before bottling.
1996 Louis Latour Montrachet Grand Cru
List Price: $525.00 Sale Price: $450.00 Quantity in Stock: 2
Pale yellow in colour and as always, the nose is very expressive and full with a touch of brioche. On tasting, it is a harmonious, rich wine with some tension. Notes of apricot persist on the finish, mixed with a touch of oak. This is a wine to keep. Vinification Traditional in oak barrels with complete malolactic fermentation Description The Grand Cru vineyard of Bâtard-Montrachet lies between the picturesque villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, home to the world's greatest white wines. Only a small country lane separates this 11.86 hectare vineyard from the great Montrachet itself. Its gentle easterly-facing slope is made up of a deep, rich, gravelly soil which has a limestone base, world renowned for the production of high quality Chardonnay.
