"[The senior partner] sipped [the French wine grower's Burgundy], rolled it round his tongued and swallowed it while the French principal sat complacently waiting for the expected praise. "Urine," he said. ...whereupon the Frenchman leapt to his feet, threw down his napkin and stormed out of the room. "Where has he gone," asked the senior partner? "Well, Sir, ... you did describe his Burgundy as er...urine."  "Fussy old gentleman isn't he? Pass the potatoes," said the senior partner.

This Epic Burgundy Battle will take place on May 20th 2016 at Wine Watch and this is one of our “Once in a Lifetime” series of tastings and we have an incredible collection of older Burgundy to sell this evening- this is serious research we are doing on vintage wines from Burgundy.  Check out the collection of vintage Burgundy that we have on this offering and if you want to sample the goods sign up for the tasting next Friday night.

Burgundy is the world's most expensive dirt and there is a reason why the wines cost so much- they will age for decades in your cellar.   This tasting will feature red wines that are 20+ years old from village level to grand cru.  This is a formal sit down tasting and there are only 14 spaces available.  The fee for this tasting is $159 per person + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

1976 Domaine Perrot Minot Gevrey Chambertin
Price: $145.00    Sale Price: $120.00
Quantity in Stock: 5

The origins of the Perrot-Minot estate go back to the middle of the 19 th century, when the vines of the Sigaut (Chambolle-Musigny) and Morizot (Morey-Saint Denis) families were brought together in the heritage of Léonie Sigaut, wife and widow of Alexandre Morizot.

After practising the profession of wine broker for seven years, their son, Christophe Perrot-Minot returned to the estate and became manager in 1993. His previous experience had brought him a deep and broad knowledge of the winegrower's trade.

And convictions about what constitutes a great wine and how to produce it. Convictions that he was to put into practice by adhering, like the three generations who preceded him, to that grand tradition of putting excellence and innovation at the very heart of work. Rethinking, modernising the estate, perfecting ever further the quality of the wines. Preparing the continuation of a story which now goes back nearly two centuries.

1976 Carrelet Corton Grand Cru
Price: $120.00    Sale Price: $95.00
Quantity in Stock: 9

The Hill of Corton lies in the midst of a cluster of famous wine-growing villages - Ladoix-Serrigny, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Savigny-lès-Beaune - with, to the North, the southern end of the Côte de Nuits where vineyards mingle with stone quarries (Comblanchien limestone). The vineyards lie at heights of 250-330 metres and form a kind of amphitheatre not found elsewhere in the Côte. The Hill of Corton produces white Corton-Charlemagne and (mainly) red Corton, described by Camille Rodier as “le roi des bons-vivants” (or “the king of the bon vivants”). Corton Grand Cru received its AOC status on 31 July, 1937. A small quantity of white wine is grown but only the reds have the right to add the name of their Climat to that of the appellation.

1983 Domaine Michel Prunier et Fille Les Caillerets Volnay Premier Cru
Price: $125.00    Sale Price: $95.00
Quantity in Stock: 4

Les Caillerets is a 14.33-hectare Premier Cru climat in Volnay. The vineyard is situated downhill from Clos des Chênes, just southeast of the Autun Road (RN 73). It is among the most renowned in Volnay, producing, as Clive Coates writes, “Volnay of real silk, lace and the complexity of all the petits fruits rouges you can imagine.” Facing east, southeast from an altitude varying between 260 and 290 meters, the rocky soil of Les Caillerets is an admixture of limestone and calcium- rich clay.

1983 Albert Bichot Domaine du Clos Frantin Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Price: $225.00    Sale Price: $195.00
Quantity in Stock: 4

On the famous Grand Cru route, the commune of Flagey-Echezeaux is home to the Grands Echezeaux appellation which is in fact a triangular enclave within the Echezeaux area. The vineyard here is rooted in very stony brown limestone soil lying on hard Bathonian limestone. The combination of mainly shallow clay earth lying on limestone rock is the origin of the powerfulness and complexity of this vineyard plot.

1983 Hospices de Beaune Beaune Premier Cru Cuvee Hugues et Louis Betault
Price: $100.00    Sale Price: $85.00
Quantity in Stock: 2

A Squire and Counsellor-Secretary of the King of France, Hugues Bétault saved the Hôtel-Dieu from ruin when wars and epidemics were raging in the XVIIth Century. He had a light and airy infirmary built and acquired land that was transformed into gardens and a vegetable plot. After his disappearance, his brother Louis made in turn several generous donations to the Hospices.

This Premier Cru Cuvee is made up of nearly 40% Beaune-Grèves, planted in 1961. It also includes a quarter hectare of Beaune Clos des Mouches Premier Cru, planted in 1955.

1990 Louis Jadot Domaine des Heritiers Vignes Franches 'Clos des Ursules' Monopole Premier Cru
Price: $200.00    Sale Price: $159.00
Quantity in Stock: 4

Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules is the original vineyard (lying within the larger ‘Vignes Franches’ Cru) that the Jadot family farmed from 1826. It is also a ‘monopole’ vineyard, i.e. a vineyard that only Jadot own, farm and make the wines from, somewhat of an advantage in a region that is defined by its fractious nature and large number of vine growers. The Clos des Ursules is aged similarly to the Grèves, but underwent a longer fermentation of 5 weeks, with which winemaker Frédéric Bannier extracted deeper red colour and fruit aroma.

Clos des Urusules lies close to Pommard and shares the longevity of some of the more substantial Pommard Crus.

1995 Domaine Mugneret Gibourg Echezeaux Grand Cru

Mugneret is a well-known name among winemakers in the Côte de Nuits, particularly in Vosne-Romanée, where it has existed for many generations.
