Then on to Champagne as the holidays approach with the man who resurrected Maison Deutz, Fabrice Rosset.  Fabrice worked at Louis Roederer for 22 years and was brought in to bring this classic Champagne house back to prominence.  The Deutz Champagne house began with German origins, Champagne Deutz was founded in 1838 by two Prussian immigrants, William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann. It was acquired by Louis Roederer in 1993 and now owns 42 hectares of vineyard and has an extensive sourcing network for grapes.  They now make 14 different cuvees and shipped 2.5 million bottles shipped last year. This year they were on par to ship 2.8 million bottles but we all know what happened.

Join us as we welcome Fabrice for a tasting of three Champagnes which you can buy as a three pack in the Wine Watch gift Box section at www.winewatch.com.   If you can’s make it at 2pm on the 28th of October, I understand some of you have to work, you can follow along any time after that on our Instagram TV channel to see the presentation.

Virtual Wine Tasting featuring Maison Deutz Champagne

with Special Guest Fabrice Rosset

Wednesday, October 28th
2pm
We had an incredible tasting in Champagne with Fabrice back in the beginning of March before everything shut down.  He took us on an incredible tour of the winery and tasted us through the entire line-up of Champagnes from Maison Deutz including a rare champagne from the 1929 vintage that he added dosage to for a second time.  What a treat!!  Fabrice led us through a tasting of 14 different Champagnes featuring the cuvee William Deutz and the Amour de Deutz with a vintage from each of the last three decades to show the evolution of these wines.  Absolutely amazing and I look forward to catching up with Fabrice at this event- We bought all the 2010 Amour de Deutz Tetes de Cuvee Champagne that come into Florida as this looks to be an outstanding vintage for Champagne!

A newcomer to the line-up at Deutz the rose was produced for the first time in 2004.  Bright and fresh raspberry and strawberry fruit on the nose.  This wine is made with a blend of still red wine from Ay where they have 4 plots of old vines Pinot noir, on the tongue there is a good amount of light red berry fruit with lovely freshness and that classic tongue tingly mineral notes lengthening the finish. Finish 40+  Excellent +

2009 Deutz Champagne Amour de Deutz Tetes de Cuvee Rose Brut
Price: $201.00    Your Price: $176.88     Quantity in Stock: 2

A warmer vintage in Champagne these 2009 vintage wines have gorgeous fruit with an array of Raspberry jolly rancher candy, Wild Strawberry and red cherry notes a very pretty bouquet with chalky mineral nuance showing as the wine warms up a bit in the glass.  On the tongue this wine has a lovely creamy texture with pretty floral notes and rich juicy fruit but is still quite fresh with a long layered finish, tongue tingly minerality lengthening the finish.  Finish 50+ Most Excellent

2009 Deutz Champagne Amour de Deutz Tetes de Cuvee Brut
Price: $180.00    Your Price: $158.40     Quantity in Stock: 3

(95 Points) The 2009 Brut Millésimé Amour de Deutz is laced with white flowers, mint, white pepper and citrus peel, all of which give it terrific brightness and energy to play off the natural radiance of the year. Medium in body and aromatically deep, the 2009 has enough verve to develop nicely in bottle for many years to come. Overall, this is a relatively airy, understated Champagne for a year that generally produced more overt wines.  Antonio Galloni - Vinous Media

2010 Amour de Deutz Tetes de Cuvee Champagne
Price: $193.50 Sale $170.28                   Quantity in Stock: 24

This is 100% Chardonnay and is an exceptional vintage for Champagne, this vintage has just arrived and although it is the current release it should age for three decades or more in your cellar as we saw at the winery when we visited and Fabrice opened up the vintage Blancs de Blancs from the 1989 vintage which is what the Amour de Deutz used to be called.  This wine is showing a good amount of ripe tree fruit white flowers and chalky mineral notes with a smooth creamy texture with wonderful firm acidity holding everything in place, a long layered. Finish 50+ Most Excellent

2006 Deutz Champagne Cuvée William Deutz Brut
Price: $153.00    Your Price: $134.64     Quantity in Stock: 4

(92 Points) The 2006 Brut Millésime William Deutz is a blend of 66% Pinot, 29% Chardonnay and 5% Meunier that spent 100 months on the bottle lees before the disgorgement. My sample was disgorged on 6th October 2015 (dosage: 9 g/l, lot LA110D27915) and opens very clear, fine and aromatic on the nose, showing delicate fruit aromas of sweet cherries, oranges and marzipan as well as tobacco aromas and smoky notes. On the palate, this is a fresh, fine, pure and concentrated as well as elegant and structured assemblage whose finish is slightly sweet but also aromatic and round, and the mousse is remarkably fine.  Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
