New Zealand and Argentina - Bertin Henry

Man O’ War Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Waiheke Island New Zealand
Price: $18.75 Sale $16.50 Case $192
We time the picking of the Sauvignon blanc based on the acidity of the grapes so we are looking for a vibrant core of acid to provide the focus and length to the wine. The solids in the ferment provide tannin structure and a pleasing grapefruit finish which enhances the length. In a cool year such as 2011 we promote the acid and tannin to allow a small amount of natural residual sugar to remain in the wine providing texture and a little weight. The Sémillon adds another dimension to the wine and gives it an ability to age far more gracefully than a 100% Sauvignon blanc blend. This 2011 is fresh and fragrant with mineral chalk characters, citrus notes and hints of tropical fruits.
Man O’ War Pinot Gris 2010 Ponui Island New Zealand
Price: $21 Sale $18.48 Case $215
The 2011 has touches of cinnamon, spice and canned apricot from the St Helena clone and more subtle characters of peach, pear and chalk from the GM clone. The wine has a balance of natural sugar, acid, tannin and a lifted spritz on the palate which gives the wine liveliness. Although it is a relatively sweet wine the balance of the key elements means the wine is refreshing and flavoursome and not at all cloying.

Opici Wine Company – France

Domaine Roux Mersault Vieilles Vignes 2010
Price: $53.75 Sale $47.30 Case $549
The monks of Cîteaux planted vines in the Meursault appellation as far back as 1098, making this area — which includes soil rich in Jurassic marl and marly-limestone — no stranger to wine making. Roux “Vieilles Vignes” is fermented in French oak barrels, followed by aging for about 12 to 13 months. Toasted almonds and hazelnuts meet floral aromas and mineral notes. Structured and rich on the palate, this wine pairs well with crustaceans and fine-textured meat.
Domaine Roux Mercurey “La Perriere” 2010
Price: $29.75 Sale $26.18 Case $304
Located in Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey is one of Burgundy’s most notable appellations, with a diverse terroir ranging from marly and calcic soils to Jurassic rocks to white limey soils to red clay. This wine is fermented in stainless steel and French oak barrels and subsequently aged in barrel. Table #1 Justin/Landmark

Justin Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2010
Price: $24 Sale $21.12 Case $245
Winery Notes: Beautifully balanced, with attractive aromas of black fruit and spice, this smooth, ready to drink Cabernet is made with the same care afforded the highest quality, traditionally-made Bordeaux wines. Our grapes are hand-picked and then sorted by the berry for consistent quality and flavor. JUSTIN Cabernet Sauvignon spends more than a year in traditional small oak barrels to impart a depth and complexity to the wine that expresses the influence of the ancient limestone soils and unique climate of Paso Robles.
Bright with a deep ruby core and violet rim. On the nose it presents an attractive mix of red and black fruit of currants, cherry and blackberry layered with spicy notes of anise, vanilla and with a subtle cedar character from an American oak influence. Complex with bright fruit of blackcurrant, cherry, and boysenberry mixed with licorice and subtle cedar notes on a long finish along with some mineral and cherry candy notes supported by smooth rounded tannins

Table #2 – Chateau St. Michelle

Antinori Cervaro Della Sala 2010
Price: $54 Sale $47.52
(93 Points) "From Antinori's Castello della Sala estate, this landmark white helped to shine the spotlight on Umbria's untapped enological potential. A blend of Chardonnay and Grechetto, this is smooth, creamy, complex and long lasting. It offers a beautiful bouquet of vanilla, apricot, exotic fruit and honey, with a subtle touch of exotic spice. Cellar Selection." Wine Enthusiast
Antinori Guado Al Tasso Bolgheri 2008
Price: $107 Sale $94.16
(95 Points) The 2008 Guado al Tasso is once again fabulous. In fact, it may be Tuscany’s most improved wine over the last few years. Firm, vibrant tannins support expressive layers of dark fruit, plums, cherries, sage, espresso and mocha. The wine shows fabulous detail and nuance in a translucent, totally seductive style, with tons of focus, drive and verve. It is a striking wine that will be a joy to follow over the coming years. The 2008 Guado al Tasso is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028.
Antinori seems to do everything well these days, from churning out millions of bottles of supermarket wines all the way to turning out superb versions of their many flagship bottlings. This is another impressive set of new releases with a number of highlights. Over the years oenologist Renzo Cotarella has moved away from the super-late harvests of the late 1990s/early 2000s in favor of picking slightly earlier, a decision that has paid off handsomely, especially over the last few years. Antinori’s 2008s, from a vintage that is quite inconsistent across the board, are superb. I remember spending a few days near the estate’s Tignanello and Badia a Passignano estates in mid-August 2008. The days were very hot, but the nights were so cool that a sweater or light jacket was a necessity. Wine Advocate #196, Aug 2011

Justin/Landmark

Justin Isosceles Paso Robles 2009
Price: $67.50 Sale $59.40 Case $689
Isosceles is the self-proclaimed "highest expression" of Justin Winery's winemaking abilities. Their iconic Bordeaux blend is a dream fulfilled in the model of the great Bordeaux Left-Bank wines of Pauillac and Margaux. This year's edition is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot. Quantities (as always) are limited.
Producer notes: "Dark ruby in the glass with a violet rim. Aroma: An alluring, rich mix of ripe black currants and berries faceted with vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa highlights. Palate: Full bodied and complex with multiple black fruit elements of lush currants, berry, and cherry layered with spice of licorice and vanilla accented with chocolate, roasted coffee bean, and tobacco. The finish is extremely long and complex, showing firm plush tannins that pull the wine's many elements together making it hard to resist drinking it now, but implying an auspicious long-term cellaring potential."
Justin Justification 2009
Price: $48 Sale $42.24 Case $490
Winemaker's notes: A Blend of 67% Cabernet Franc and 33% Merlot. Bright, medium to dark ruby core with purple highlights around the rim. Aromas are medium-plus intensity and of elegant bright red and black fruit like cherries, cassis and some blackberry perfectly combined with tobacco, pencil lead with subtle vanilla and slight anise spice. Long, complex finish dominated by bright cherry, with a pleasing combination spice, mineral and herbs.
Landmark Pinot Noir Grand Detour 2009
Price: $42.75 Sale $37.62 Case $436
The 2009 growing season was ideal growing season for Pinot Noir. A long cool dry Spring was followed by a temperate summer. A warm, but not hot September brought the grapes to maturity with moderate sugar levels. The Sonoma Coast is one of California’s best regions for the production of Pinot Noir. While the traditional plantings of Pinot tended to be concentrated in the Carneros and Russian River, today’s focus has been in the cooler Sonoma Coast appellation, where newer clonal material and denser spacing has led to a renaissance for this varietal in Sonoma County.
Winery Tasting Notes: The wine exhibits a deep garnet color and aromas of gingerbread spice and blood orange are underpinned by forest floor and earthy cherry. On the palate hints of mushroom and plum unfold. Supple ripe tannins and balancing acidity give the wine a long lasting finish.

Winery Tasting Notes: The saturated flavors and textural quality of the 2009 vintage are a direct result of an idyllic, moderate growing season, enabling Darioush’s ‘signature’ combination of finesse and concentration. Vivid flavors of licorice, black cherry and mocha are wrapped in a sleek, savory package of sage and French lavender. Succulent, fully-developed tannins support a long finish with a lifted, fruit quality we can only describe as energetic and age-worthy.
