This event just popped up on the calendar and we are always happy to see our friend Trey Christy from the Spire collection, the luxury division of Jackson Family wine empire.  We will forever know Trey as Mr. Verite from our tasting earlier this year- WOW what an amazing night and this should proves to be another evening of Excellent to KILLER wines from the upper echelon of this group’s collection of small boutique wineries. 

Wine Watch caterings Toni Lampasone will be making a few small courses to accompany the tasting wines.  This is a seated event and there are only 15 spaces available this evening, the fee for this event is $55 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463.

2012 Galerie Sauvignon Blanc Napa

Lemon and lime citrus with green apple, this is a blend of stainless and older oak with lees stirring to get more richness in the wine a very fresh and clean style, notes of white flowers and a slight briny note.  A zesty wine on the tongue with lime citrus and green apple fruit along with a slight salty note to the finish leaving the tongue salivating for food.  Finish 40+                Excellent  

Maggy Hawk Pinot Noir Hawkster Anderson Valley

By all accounts, Maggy Hawk’s sire Hawkster, was a magnificent horse, a world record holder in the mile and a half race on turf. Only produced in the best vintages, the Hawkster Pinot Noir, crafted from clone 2a, is the crown jewel of the Maggy Hawk collection.

Planted with the 667 clone on the vineyard’s steepest slope, Unforgettable is difficult to farm, difficult to pick and incredibly low yielding.  It’s little wonder then that the wine named for this horse is dark-fruited, intense and shot through with minerality.

Chateau Lassegue St Emilion 2007

Heavy compact clay with limestone, this winery was in the same family for 250 years before they purchased it, very nice terroir here planted after the 56 frost so over 50 year old vines here, 2/3 Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon.  A nice peppery cigar box spice and fresh earth with coffee notes to the currant and plum like fruit on the nose very pleasant bouquet open and very seductive.  Soft and round on the tongue with smooth red plum and cherry fruit nicely balance and fresh on the finish but already showing evolution and drinking very well.  Finish 35+        Very Good +

Chateau Vignot Saint Emilion 2005

Pretty cigar box spice and a distinct earthy nuance, clay like minerality with red currant and cherry berry fruit, showing a bit of evolution but still quite intact on the second day.  Quite smooth on the tongue but has nice structure and depth of flavors with that distinct earthy nuance lasting through the finish 45+ Excellent

2008 Tenuta di Arceno Valdorna Toscana

Price: $69.75       Sale $61.38          Case $712

This is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the winemaking is overseen by Pierre Seillan. One of the top wines made at the property and this wine has a very Bordeaux like appeal to the bouquet fresh plowed earth, black currant and plum like fruit on nose with notes of black licorice spice, toasty oak, graphite and black tar, very complex array of aromas here. A very rich and plush wine on the palate with an array of dark cherry and plum fruit, exotic spices and a firm hand of acidity holding things together, echoing the nuance from the nose through the finish, still has a good amount of dry tannins on the finish, this wine needs a bit of time but has all the right pieces and in proportion. Finish 50+ Most Excellent

2008 Tenuta di Arceno Arcanum Toscana

A blend of 77% Cabernet Franc, 17% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and this is the top wine on the property made from Select blocks. This wine has an amazing nose of dark exotic spices, cigar box spice, violet floral notes and a good hand of blackberry and blueberry fruit very well endowed with bittersweet coco and fresh plowed dark earth. A big and chewy wine on the tongue with layers of dark berry fruit, a firm hand of tannins and acidity but lots of everything else this wine is still a baby but has lovely structure and complexity leading in the a very long and layered finish. Finish 50+ Most Excellent +

2008 Anakota Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana Vineyard Knights Valley

This is volcanic ash grey soils, this Montana vineyard is the cabernet Source for La Joie, this wine has a distinct earthy loamy quality to the dark currant and cassis berry fruit, complex and layered bouquet bitter coco and espresso notes.  Big and chewy on the tongue with firm acidity and tannins showing that bitter chocolate notes through the finish, very intense and with long finish that has layers of everything more linear and brighter on the palate.  Finish 45+ Excellent
