We have a light week this week with only two events and there may still be a few seats left for the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino also featuring a few of the outstanding 2010 Riservas. Check out our web page for the line-up of Brunelli for this Friday night.

I am getting excited about my trip to New Zealand in July and our biweekly tasting at Café Maxx coming up just happens to be featuring the wines from this far away country in the Southern hemisphere that has become world famous for their wines

New Zealand has taken the wine world by storm with their redefining style of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. They make a fresh and fruity week that is so appealing you can drink it like soda pop at the pool in the afternoon. But besides this fun and whimsical wine they also have some great Pinot Noir as well as a few areas that can produce world class Syrah and Bordeaux varietals.

These tastings at the Cafe Maxx for $35 are the best value of any event that we do. You get to try 8 different wines at the same time, pre-poured so they have a chance to open up and so you can go back through the line-up to get a second and third look at everything. This is how you learn about wine and with master chef Oliver Saucy sending out a few small courses to accompany the wines; you get a taste of Cafe Maxx and an education in wine all at the same time, a great way to spend happy hour! This is a pre-poured sit down tasting and is limited to 25 tasters, the fee for this tasting is $35 + Gratuity + tax for reservations call 954-782-0606.

Ata Rangi Sauvignon Blanc Martinborough
Price: $33.00 Sale $29.04 Case $337

Naturally low Martinborough yields, small canopies, old vines and hand-picking are all factors in producing our unique style of bone-dry but weighty Sauvignon Blanc. Four different ferment techniques were used this year to ensure richness, complexity and length. The first, in tank, resulted in a very pure, steely component with spicy/floral and fleshy white fruit notes and just a hint of fennel bulb to balance the plush fruit.

(92 Points) “The fleshy peach and nectarine flavors are ripe, juicy and appealing, with fresh fennel, grapefruit zest, jasmine and mineral accents. Generous, supple and refreshing, presenting terrific intensity on the finish." - Wine Spectator

Winery Notes: From the lower terrace of our Te Muna Road Vineyard in Martinborough, this wine is sourced exclusively from several parcels of vines growing on a stony, limestone influenced soil adjacent to the Huangarua River.
Intervention in the cellar is minimal out of care and respect for characters of the vineyard, resulting in a wine with a distinctive fine, soft, chalky texture and great elegance.
Pale straw colour with a green hue. Lovely aromas of citrus blossom, lime, jasmine and the faintest hint of fresh honey. Subtle flavours of fresh lime and grapefruit are balanced with a fine chalky texture that is reminiscent of the stones and limestone within the vineyard. Finishes dry, fresh and long.
