2011 Chateau D'yquem Sauternes

(96 Points) Served from an ex-chateau bottle. Bottled in October 2013, the 2011 Chateau d’Yquem is reticent at first, a little stage fright perhaps. It soon recovers and offers gorgeous scents with fresh white peach, nectarine and fresh apricot that are beautifully defined, although there is a veneer of new oak that will need to be subsumed. The palate is well-balanced with superb structure. There is a light spiciness here with great symmetry, and although there is not the persistency of a top flight Yquem, it has a penetration that is compelling. Tasted March 2014. eRobertParker.com #213 Jun 2014 Reviewer: NEAL MARTIN

2005 Chateau D'Yquem Sauternes

(95-98 Points) Wine Advocate # 176, Apr 2008 Concentrated nose of apricot compote, dried fruit, and figs with vanilla and floral (jasmine and acacia blossom) aromas. The bouquet opens up after swirling in the glass to reveal entremely fresh citrus zest overtones that emphasize the wine's subtle refinement. Starts out deliciously suave and caressing on the palate, with perfect balance. The fresh acidity and elegance compliment the wine's restrained power, giving it incredible class. there are strong flavors of gingerbread, orange nonette cakes and liquorice followed by a gorgeous acid tang that underpins the wine's beautiful, long aftertaste on a par with the chateau's most illustrious vintages. The tremendously varied and complex flavor all seem to vibrate on the same wavelength, melting into a subltle whole. Once this is esprienced, there is an irresistible urge to plunge bak into this sensual, infinitly rich universe. Tasted by the winemaking team at Chateau D'yquem

(98 Points) Subtle and racy, with lemon rind, vanilla cream and dried pineapple. Very spicy and intense. Full-bodied, with great length and flavor. Electrified yet refined, with medium sweetness and a wonderful finish. I love the class of this, and the length. Has afterburners. Best after 2010. -JS Wine Spectator Issue: Dec 31, 2006

1986 Chateau D'Yquem Sauternes

1986 Chateau D'Yquem Sauternes image

(98 Points) With greater evidence of botrytis than the colossal 1983, but less power and alcohol, the 1986 d'Yquem tastes reminiscent of the 1975, only more precocious. Several highly respected Bordeaux negociants who are d'Yquem enthusiasts had claimed the 1986 d'Yquem was the greatest wine produced at the property since the legendary 1937. However, after the release of the 1988 they concluded that the 1988 surpassed even the 1986. The 1986's enthralling bouquet of pineapples, sauteed hazelnuts, vanillin, and ripe apricots is breathtaking. Compellingly concentrated, its breadth as well as depth of flavor seemingly know no limits. This full-bodied, powerful, yet impeccably elegant d'Yquem should provide memorable drinking for 40-55 more years. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2040. Last tasted, 7/93. Wine Advocate #88, Aug 1993

1983 Chateau d'Yquem

(96 Points)  The 1983 is among the most concentrated wines from this property over the last 20 years, with a staggering display of extract and a mind-boggling amount of glycerin. The vintage commenced early for Yquem, beginning on September 29 and finishing on November 18. Most observers feel the 1983 will mature more slowly than the 1986, and will last for almost 100 years. Given Yquem's unbelievable aging potential, such comments do not seem far fetched. At present, the 1983 is enormous, with huge, honeyed, pineapple, coconut, and caramel flavors, massive extract, and an unctuous quality barely framed by acidity and new oak. I do not feel the wine has changed since bottling, and I would not want to start drinking it for at least another 10-15 years. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2050. Last tasted, 12/90.  Bordeaux Book, 3rd Edition Jan 1998     Robert M. Parker, Jr.

1967 Chateau d'Yquem

Based solely on the strength of what is unquestionably a great Yquem, many have concluded that 1967 was a superb vintage for Sauternes. The truth is that 1967 was a very good but irregular vintage. As for Yquem, it is close to perfection. Medium amber/golden with a full intensity bouquet of vanillin spice, honey, ripe pineapples, and coconut, this intense, very ripe, unctuous Yquem has layers of sweet, opulent fruit, excellent balance, and a hefty, powerful finish. Almost too big and rich to be served with food, this wine should be drunk alone as a dessert. From the point of view of this wine's evolution, it has hardly budged in the last six years. Anticipated maturity: Now-2035. Last tasted, 12/90.    Bordeaux Book, 3rd Edition, Jan 1998
