"Drinking is like pouring smiles on your brain."

Chris Hardwick

At one-time Pinot Noir was thought to be the world's most finicky grape varietal and that it would only grow in a few places where it could turn out a world class wine.  Today, we can find excellent examples of the Pinot Noir varietal from all over the wine world; Germany, Austria, Australia, Argentina, Chile, Tasmania, New Zealand, South Africa, California, Oregon and of course the mother land for this varietal Burgundy, France.

In 2016 Jackson Family acquired Copain Wines from Wells Guthrie another one of the top Pinot Noir labels from California.   The Copain label now has an arsenal of California’s top vineyard sources to choose from and the wines under this label continue to impress.  We have been big fans of this unadulterated style of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah since Wells started the winery.  Today the style of the Copain wines are true to its founder they are all about the terror and all of the wines have a true sense of place and a savory quality to the finish.

Join us as we welcome Melissa Vorst back to the Wine Watch Wine Bar for a tasting of the latest releases from Copain and chef Toni Lampasone has prepared a special meal to accompany the tasting wines.  This is a seated tasting and the fee for this event which includes dinner is $95 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

2015 Copain Les Voisins Chardonnay Anderson Valley
Price: $30.00    Your Price: $26.40     Quantity in Stock: 8

VINEYARD NOTES: From the Ferrington Vineyard, we incorporated separate lots made from the Robert Young and Wente clones into this vintage of Les Voisins. VINTAGE NOTES: The 2015 vintage will be remembered for high quality, lower yields. We had the earliest start to our harvest ever, and our earliest finish. The growing season started out with unseasonably warm temperatures in late winter and early spring. Cooler temperatures in May caused some uneven fruit set that contributed to smaller yields at some of our sites. The quality and purity of the fruit from this vintage produced wines with outstanding flavors and aromatics. We are excited to see our wines from this vintage develop.  copainwines.com

2015 Copain Chardonnay Dupratt
Price: $45.00    Your Price: $39.60

DuPratt Chardonnay is as timeless as the centuries-old Alpine trees that surround this organically grown vineyard. Tucked away along the Mendocino Ridge, the higher elevation and pronounced coastal influences have yielded a focused and balanced wine. Teeming with vibrant minerality, this terrior-driven wine showcases aromatics of orange blossoms and freshly zested lemons alongside wet stone aromas. The solid backbone and precise acidity of this wine delivers flavors of Meyer lemon and Asian pear over the palate. An alluring mouthfeel is achieved through the extended grape skin contact the fruit undergoes before being pressed off and sent to barrel for fermentation and aging. Completely fermented and aged in neutral French oak barrels, the characteristics of this Chardonnay are distinctly reminiscent of a cru Chablis.  copainwines.com

Copain Tous Ensemble Pinot Noir 2016
Price: $24.00   Sale $21.12

The 2016 “Tous Ensemble” Pinot Noir, our first offering from Sonoma Coast, presents aromas of rose petals, Santa Rosa plum skins, and fresh raspberries. Ripe cherries and orange peels also present themselves on the palate with a silky texture and lingering finish.

2015 Copain Pinot Noir Les Voisins Anderson Valley
Price: $34.50    Your Price: $30.36

Our 2015 “Les Voisins” Pinot Noir represents the focus and concentration that this vintage will be known for. This bottling presents aromatics of black cherry skins, star anise, and sweet tea leaves. On the pallet, flavors of raspberry compote and red currants are met with notes of forest floor and vanilla. The lush, silky texture is balanced with a lasting finish.

Derived from the Deep End of Anderson Valley, which is the coolest end of the 18 mile long stretch, the fruit for this wine hails primarily from neighboring vineyards. These sites bear a preponderance of Dijon and California heritage clones. Altitude and proximity to the ocean, combined with a high concentration of sandstone, provide optimal growing conditions for Pinot Noir.  copainwines.com

Copain Kiser En Bas Pinot Noir 2014
Price: $63.00   Sale $55.44

Beginning our second decade bottling of the lower block of Kiser - this section contains more clay than the upper block which provides a density that translates to a more plush, ample mouth feel. Pure dark red fruits and beet root with undertones of fennel fronds - the finish connotes a dusty yet supple tannic structure.

Copain Kiser En Haut Pinot Noir 2013
Price: $72.00   Sale $63.36

2015 Copain Syrah Tous Ensemble
Price: $30.00   Your Price: $26.40

Black plum, cassis and spice lace the aroma of 2015 Tous Ensemble Syrah. Juicy red raspberry and boysenberry fruit with plum blossom, graphite and spice make up the rich palate. The finish is long with plush tannins and bright acidity.

2015 Copain Syrah Les Voisins Mcdowell Valley
Price: $34.50    Your Price: $30.36

(92 Points) The medium garnet-purple colored 2015 Syrah les Voisins (100% Syrah) displays bold black cherries, blackberries and warm plums scents with a very spicy undercurrent of baking spices and black pepper. Medium to full-bodied with firm, rounded tannins, it gives a great intensity of peppered black fruits, finishing long and perfumed. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2012 Copain Pinot Noir Kiser En Haut Anderson Valley
Price: $72.00    Your Price: $63.36     Quantity in Stock: 7

(92 Points)The 2012 Pinot Noir Kiser En Haut is bright and beautifully delineated from the very first taste. Freshly cut flowers, mint and crushed rocks add nuance to a core of precise, crystalline fruit in a Pinot that impresses for its energy. Interestingly, the 2013 was made from fully destemmed fruit. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2012 for at least a year or two to allow the firm tannins to soften a bit. I imagine the Kiser En Haut will always remain a slightly compact, nervous Pinot. I was quite taken with the wines I tasted from Copain and proprietor Wells Guthrie this year. The Tous Ensemble range delivers outstanding value, while the best Syrahs and Pinots soar with exceptional beauty and a sense of weightlessness that is compelling. In particular, several of the 2012 Syrahs are utterly captivating. Guthrie is among the producers who prefers to pick at slightly lower sugars, quite a move from the much riper style he was once known for. Although the winery is located in the heart of the Russian River Valley, all of the wines are made from vineyards in and around Anderson Valley and Yorkville Highlands...Readers will find much to admire in these gorgeous, artisan wines.
