This is one of our annual events and one of the most popular, the Champagne and Sparkling wine tasting at Progresso Plaza has become one of the most popular events that we do all year. Not only will we have an incredible line-up of Champagne and Sparkling wines from your everyday non-vintage brut, rose brut, to tete de cuvee vintage Champagne, but we will also be sampling some great methode champenoise sparklers from California and Italian Prosecco, with a few dessert style sparkling wines from Italy, Moscato and Brachetto to finish things off. There will be over 50 wines in all available to tasting and Wine Watch Catering will be here serving up a few tasty treats to accompany the bubbles. We will have stations set up both inside the store and outside in the courtyard to accommodate a maximum of 75 tasters, the fee for this tasting is $45 + tax. Lallier Champagne Grand Cru Brut NV

From 1906 originally related to the Deutz family, 400,000 bottles produced annually, the own 15 hectares in Ay, they only use Grand Cru so no pinot Meunier, they have 40% of the juice that they need and they buy the rest. family owned, the owner is the winemaker 4th generation, used to work from Pommery and Ruinart. A blend of 60/40 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they use natural yeasts so they have less sulphur in their wines, so less headaches. Aged for 3 years before disgorged and the gosage is around 6-8 grams per liter. A very fresh style with ripe tree fruit, lemon citrus and hints of fresh flowers along with chaly mineral notes, very clean and fresh through the finish. Finish 40+ Excellent

 

Lallier Rose Champagne Grand Cru NV

A pretty bouquet of raspberry and strawberry fruit on the nose, this wine spends 4 years on the lees and they use the saignee method of production 70% and the blending method 30% blending process so a very unique technique used here a combination of both. This cuvee was disgorged in October 2014 so this is mostly 2009 vintage as the base. Pretty red berry fruit on the nose, rapsberry and strawberry with rose petal floral notes and a light briny mineral character to the aromas. This wine has a nice freshness and that chalky sea shell like mineral character through the finish, pretty rasberry and red cherry fruit, nice structure here and a bit of tannins on the finish. Finish 45+ Excellent +

 

Lallier Blanc de Blanc Chmapagne Grand Cru

Mostly 2008 with 2002 and 2000 vintage reserve wines, less percentage wise but older wines. This wine spends 5 years on the lees and is from AY mostly, creamy, cheesy, mushroomy notes very rich and has a good amount of pear and green apple tree fruit, lemon head candy and a bit of toasty brioche, very complex bouquet. Rich and creamy on the tongue with layers of fresh fruit, toasty brioche and that cheesy and earthy chalky mineral notes through the finish. Finish 45+ Excellent +

A blend of 75% Pinot Noir, including 12% from the Bouzy red wine, 25% Chardonnay, 20% reserve wines. A tender pink appearance, a gracious sparkle born of very fine bubbles, an unbelievably precise fruity flavor which comes in waves, a fleshy structure with unestimable depth, and a beautifully balanced mouth revealing rich flavors of wine strawberries and raspberries.

Pretty red cherry color with aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries, fresh flowers, rose petal and red licorice spice notes. A burst of strawberry and red cherry fruit on the tongue smooth creamy texture on the tongue with tongue tingly acidity and a long persistent finish echoing the red berry fruit and light spice, chalk like minerality showing up at the end, lovely creamy texture. NV Lanson Black Label Brut Champagne

Established in 1760, they are the 5th oldest, partly owned by Bruno Paillard, Philipponat are part of the group and this is a non malo style aged for 36 months and it is a Point Noir Driven style but has all three of the main varietals in Champagne. Created in 1937 by Victor Lanson black associated wtih elegance created for their biggest market the UK has been the official supplier to the British court since 1900 when Henri Marie Lanson was awarded the title of “Purveyor of Champagne to Her Majesty” by Queen Victoria. Non-vintage cuvées are therefore composed of reserve wines and more than 10 different years of harvests, and are left to age in the Cellar for at least three years. this was disgorged in January 2013 and that would make it 2009 based. Aromas of fresh bread dough, apple and plum fruit with almond and that classic chalky mineral nuance along with some floral notes. nice freshness on the tongue, tree fruit, notes of candied ginger spice and a smooth creamy texture and a tongue tingly mineral sea shell quality to the finish. Finish 40+ Excellent

 

NV Lanson Rose Label Brut Champagne

This winery was started by the Delamotte Family. This is esentiually the same blend as the black label they own 120 hectares and like most of the bigger houses, they are #8 and they have three press houses, 1% more Pinot Noir but they use 6% red wines from Bouzy. Fresh strawberry and raspberry fruit on the tongue with pretty floral notes rose petal and more chalky mineral notes, a bigger wine with a bit of tannins at the end but lovely balance of fresh fruit and tongue tingly minerality through the finish. Finish 40+ this wine was disgorged in September 2013. Excellent +

Toasty smokey notes to the bouquet very complex and rich with hazelnut and light ginger spice. Around 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir usually 20% reserve wines going back as far as 4-5 years. Lovely richness on the tongue with a fresh dough and nutty quality coming through on the finish, with pear and apple fruit lemon citrus and a smoky character on the finish. Finish 40 Excellent

Blanc de Blanc, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc, they can only use up to 50% of this varietal.  This wine spends 48 months on the lees , 3.5 grams of residual and you see a bit more richess, ripe apricot and peach like fruit with honeysickle floral notes, lower pressure a bit creamier and softer but still has that distinct mineraly quality of the Cuvee Prestige and has a more baked bread and a nutty quality to the bouquet, hints of coco powder and spices.  The cremant of Franciacorta.  A bigger and richer wine on the palate but still has a nice freshness to the finish even with the heavier spice.  Finish 45+                Excellent +         

 

2008 Ca Del Bosco Vintage Collection Brut

This wine was disgorged 12/13 and this has a bit more Pinot Noir in the blend 35% so a bit more weight in the mid palate, more mature fruit riper richer and this wine has even more smoky flinty mineral nuance to the apricot and plum like fruit on the nose along with pretty floral highlights.  A smooth and creamy texture on the tongue with a lovely richness but also nice freshness at the end a long mineral laced finish with a distinct smoky quality.  Aged for 4 years on the lees and only 2.5 grams of residual.  finish 45+       Most Excellent

 

2005 Ca Del Bosco Cuvee Annamaria Clementi Franciacorta Riserva

Has a lovely richness to the bouquet, nutty, caramel corn, apricot and a more of a sundried fruit quality the top of the tier with 7 years on the lees, a blend of 55% Chardonnay Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir make up the rest of the blend with a bit more Pinot Blanc.  A symphony of different flavors on the tongue with a long tongue tingly mineral laced finish, that distinct minerality showing here along with a nutty quality at the end, very long and layered, creamy and even better on the second day.  Finish 50+  Most Excellent

Blanc de Blancs was the first wine Schramsberg produced in 1965 and was America’s first commercially produced, Chardonnay-based brut sparkling wine. Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs gained international recognition in 1972 when then President Nixon served the wine at the historic “Toast to Peace” in Beijing, China. The Schramsberg style of Blanc de Blancs is dry and crisp. Small lots of malolactic- and barrel-fermented wines are added for complexity. The wine is aged on the yeast lees in the bottle for about two years prior to disgorgement. With its vibrant, fruitful and crisp nature, this sparkling wine will maintain its freshness, structure and refined finish for many years, even decades following its initial release.

The 2011 Brut Rosé has generous aromas of tangerine, strawberry, cranberry and watermelon. Its fruitful nose is complemented by notes of candied ginger and warm pastry dough.
