2013 Steele Cabernet Sauvignon Red Hills Mendocino
Price: $22.50

The Red Hills appellation in LakeCountyi s a new AVA (American Viticultural Area). The iron-rich, red soil of Red Hills is laden with obsidian, a glassy black volcanic rock that glistens in the afternoon sun. Well known NapaValleygrape grower Andy Beckstoffer bought up a piece of the Red Hills AVA, planting it in Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals with which he is very familiar. We have been receiving clone 6 and clone 37 grapes from Andy since 2002.

Tasting Notes:  This wine has a rich, fruit-forward elegance. A spicy fruit and berry core backed up by soft tannins makes it a nice glass of wine for casual sipping among friends.

2014 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles
Price: $31.25

Family owned and operated, DAOU Vineyards is committed to producing collectible, world class wines to rival the most respected appellations in the world. Situated on a 212-acre hilltop estate in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, our remarkable geology, favorable microclimate, and high elevation were once described by renowned California winemaker André Tchelistcheff as, “a jewel of ecological elements.” As stewards of this beautiful terroir, DAOU’s goal is to make unique fine wines that honestly and accurately reflect the potential of the estate and to craft Bordeaux style wines that combine Old World tradition with New World techniques.  Rich and robust with aromas of blackberry, bing cherry and black currants dominating, accented with sage, dried herbs, espresso bean and dark chocolate. Hints of cigar box and vanilla.  Bold and full bodied on the palate, offering flavors of cherry, dried berries and cassis, with a subtle mocha and truffle nuances.  Balanced and well-rounded finish of pure

blackberry fruit, coffee, and a firm but smooth texture.

In 2014, we were able to accomplish everything we wanted to on DAOU Mountain. Without a doubt, 2014 was a blockbuster year for the Adelaida District. The growing season started out earlier than normal due to a lack of rain. The dry year gave us a crop about 20% lighter than the previous years resulting in very small concentrated grapes. The last two weeks of August brought cool temperatures to DAOU Mountain and was the turning point to make 2014 an exceptional vintage. These temperatures allowed the fruit to receive the necessary hang time to reach physiological ripeness. The proper hanging of the grapes and peak ripeness allowed us to make wines with beautiful and well-balanced tannins. Combined with an exceptional color and bouquet, 2014 will be a vintage that will be talked about for years to come.
