"If it's red, French, costs too much, and tastes like the water that's left in the vase after the flowers have died and rotted, it's probably Burgundy." --Jay McInerney, "Bacchus & Me"

This tasting is one that we had to reschedule because of Hurricane Matthew and although it never really hit South Florida, our good friend D.C. Flint decided to reschedule his trip to South Florida and we had only one date available in November so we have this event on a Tuesday night here at the store.

Since 1991, D.C. Flynt M.W. Selections has imported only the finest examples of fine wine from throughout the world that represent the highest value, and are quality examples of appellation typicity, terroir and the vintners art. Each wine is chosen with precise care and attention to detail.

Join us as we absorb some knowledge from one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of the state of one of the most famous wine regions, one of the world France's most coveted vineyards- Burgundy.

Wine Watch Catering’s Toni Lampasone will be preparing a meal to accompany the tasting wines. The fee for this tasting is $75 + tax for reservations call 954-523-9463.

Philippe Girard  Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2013
Price: $24.50       Sale $22.44          Case $250

This is one of Remington Norman's top Domaines of Burgundy and among Clive Coates MW's top Savigny les Beaune Producers. Since his father's retirement in 1999 and the division of the Domaine between Philippe and Jean-Jacques, the new generation of producers have created some of the finest Savigny les Beaune ever seen. Philippe produces wines that deliver purity of fruit and pleasure that true Burgundy Pinot Noir can be, and at a price we all can afford. His style is traditional with modern know how and hygiene. The red wines spend 18 months in oak of which 25 to 30% are typically new French barrels. This Domaine is the top contender for the best Domaine in Savigny.

Roland et Vincent Rapet Aloxe Corton 2010
Price: $ 67.50      Sale $59.40          Case $689

Vincent Rapet is the son of the famous Burgundian vigneron Roland Rapet. Roland has suffered a stroke but still is active in greeting visitors and although he has slowed in pace he is still as sharp as ever. Today Vincent is clearly in charge and the quality of the Domaine not only holds to what they had, but has improved with a combination of increased vine age and Vincent's careful approach. Rated *** by Robert Parker, he states "Roland...has run this serious estate for many years. The estate includes 31.3 acres of vines, with impressive holdings in Corton-Charlemagne and Corton. The Corton is...impressive, but is more elegant and stylish than the...muscular wines of some producers....Other good wines...include Pernand-Vergelesses. The Rapets have always believed in early bottling in order ot preserve the fruit in their wines. Therefore the red wines, which see 25% new oak, are bottled after 12 months, and the white wines, which see the same amount of new oak, are bottled after 9-10 months.".

Marc Roy Gevrey -Chambertin Vieille Vigne   2012
Price: $97.50       Sale $85.80          Case $995

This is one of the smallest Domaines of importance in the Cote de Nuits. Alexandrine, Marc's daughter is now running the Domaine of 10 acres which is totally concentrated in Geverey Chambertin. The grapes are all hand picked and maceration and fermentation are minimally interfered with, allowing the natural yeast to control the alcohol levels and temperature of fermentation. The Vielle Vigne Gevrey-Chambertin in particular with grapes from 70 year old vines display the best of the Domaine with rich, ripe classical dark berry flavors, full rich and earthy notes that will improve for the next seven years and beyond. There is a lot of new oak used here, but somehow it is fully integrated and not layered. Excellent quality wines under the hands of Alexandrine.

Bernard Gros Frere et Soeur Vosne Romanee 2008
Price: $105.00    Sale $92.40          Case $1071

Bernard Gros is the son of the famous Burgundian vigneron Madam Gros and runs this 20.67 acre Domaine. He is a dominate personality, a man of few words and those are chosen carefully. The wines of this Domaine are hedonistic, rich versions of Pinot Noir and are easily considered among the very best that the Cotes de Nuits has to offer. Gros controls the temperature of fermentation at cooler levels and this after lengthy cool maceration. He refuses to include press wine in the cuvee. The wines have an incredible level of extract with rolling waves of cassis and raspberry. Richebourg 2.57 acres. Grands-Echezeaux .86 acres. Clos Vougeot Musigni 3.7 acres. Vosne Romanee 7.54 acres. Bourgogne Pinot Noir 6 acres.

Domaine A'Dair Chablis 2012
Price: $31.50       Sale $27.72          Case $322

This young couple from the famous Fevre Chablis family have created one of the most impressive small wine production facilities anywhere in France. Not a single stitch of wood is to be found anywhere in the Domaine. Even the beams for the foundation were wrapped to eliminate any chance for TCA to develop in the winery. The fermentation and maturation is all done in temperature controlled jacketed stainless steel tanks in the squeakiest clean winery to be found yet. This is exactly what Chablis should be all about. Right now the wines produced under Domaine A'Dair are only AC Chablis, but the Family has now passed a generous portion of Premiers Crus and Grands Crus vineyard acreage to Gilles and Natalie, so watch this space. These two young wine-makers have the passion to make pure examples of Chablis. This is a very exciting Domaine with a great future.

It is mellow, ample, slightly racy and fruity. This Meursault is well-rounded, elegant and full bodied, with great aging potential. Aromas of fresh lemon peel, peach, hazelnut and toasted wheat; combines richness of texture and underlying minerality on the palate and finishes with persistent uplifting acidity.

Moret Nomine Meursault Clos du Cromin 2011
Price: $67.50       Sale $59.40          Case $689

David Moret is focused on white Burgundy production. This is a vigneron who has the 'gift', a deft hand with Chardonnay recognized by all around him. These are some of the best produced white Burgundies I have ever tasted. He is extremely careful, and diligent and the production shows it in every way. There is little doubt that these are the type of white Burgundies that will age and improve for years, every bit as long as their Pinot Noir cousins.

In the mouth the wine presents juicy flavors of lemon, citrus and pineapple that linger with other tropical notes in the finish.

Buisson Battault & Fils Puligny-Montrachet "Les Charmes" 2012
Price: $78.00       Sale $68.64          Case $796

A family-run Domaine for several generations with the presence of four "crus" from Meursault on offer. They always remained loyal to the typicity of the "terroir".  As such, labor (no pesticides are used) and the maturation in oak barrels for 18 months (with only 20% of new barrels) remain their time-tested methods.  The majority of the family's holdings are small lots of Premier Cru vineyards in and around the village of Meursault. Their most notable holding is their 3.9 acres of the Premier Cru Gouttes d'Or vineyard, in which they are the largest landowner and produce roughly thirty percent of the wine from that vineyard.  Buisson-Battault makes a total of about 2500 cases of wine each year. More than 60% of the wine never leaves France, and only a minuscule amount of it has gotten to the States.

There is a respectable amount of strength and tension in creamy midpalate, with its green apple flavors underlined with a citrusy acidity and excellent minerality.  Great lingering finish, with enough warm spicy notes to pull into an extended, structured end.
