I know we're a bit late with this e-mail to promote our next tasting at Cafe Maxx but with most of these tastings selling out this year it probably is not necessary to hit the send button on this one as the topic of Burgundy is red hot. 

California Cabernet is also red hot as the California Cult tasting on Friday has already sold out without even sending out an e-mail to promote this event.

These tastings at the Cafe Maxx for $35 are the best value of any event that we do. You get to try 8 different wines at the same time, pre-poured so they have a chance to open up and so you can go back through the line-up to get a second and third look at everything. This is how you learn about wine and with master chef Oliver Saucy sending out a few small courses to accompany the wines, you get a taste of Cafe Maxx and an education in wine all at the same time. A great way to spend happy hour.

Tonight we will feature wines from two of the greatest wine varietals on the face of the earth- Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.   This is a pre-poured sit down tasting and is limited to 25 tasters, the fee for this tasting is $35 + Gratuity + tax for reservations call 954-523-9463.

"A delicious red Burgundy, with harmonious flavours. Bright ruby colour. On the nose, intense aromas of wild cherry, liquorice and mild spices, evolving towards notes of undergrowth and mushroom. On the palate, excellent balance between tannin, acidity and "gras" (velvety texture). The aftertaste is reminiscent of little red berries".

(88-91 Points)  There is enough reduction present to impede evaluation the nose. By contrast there is good vibrancy and freshness to the mouth coating middle weight flavors that terminate in an austere but impressively long finish. 2012 Roblet-Monnot Volnay “St. Francois”

90-92 The 2012 Volnay Saint Francois is gorgeous. Bright red berries, flowers, spices and hard candy all jump from the glass in an exuberant, racy Volnay endowed with gorgeous purity and class. There is a lot to look forward to here. The Saint Francois is a blend of ten parcels, including the 1er Cru Ormeau and the 1er Cru part of Robardelles. 2013 Bitouzet-Prieur Bourgogne Blanc

Light yellow-gold hue, with green-gold highlights. On the nose, the wine expresses fresh fruit aromas (pear), along with hazelnut aromas created by its barrel ageing.

2011 Pierre Guillemot Savigny Les Beaune Blanc "Dessus des Gollardes"

A rare field blend of Chardonnay (30%) and Pinot Blanc (70%) from the eighth generation of the Guillemot family. The Savigny lès Beaune is showing flavours such as, fresh citrus, white flowers and honey water on the nose, which reflects the local terroir of refinement and elegance. There is also high acidity with subtle oak framing the creamy undertones on the palate that leads to a long finish. It has great capability for long term cellaring with the right condition.

2011 Domaine du Meix Foulot Mercurey Rouge 1er Cru

This cuvée is a blend of grapes harvested from the “Les Byots” vineyard and the “Les Montaigus” site.  The age of the vines for this bottling are between 15 and 40+ years. The “Byots” portion brings strength and structure to the blend while the vines in the “Montaigu” site, at higher altitude, add elegance and lift to this wine.

2013 Regis Bouvier Marsannay Rouge "Les Longeroies VV"

Régis Bouvier in Marsannay achieves a rare hat trick in Burgundy, the mastering of all three colors–red, white and rosé, through reasonable yields and high quality terroirs. Bouvier makes the best Burgundian rosé that we have ever tasted, his whites are delicious, with their own particular character completely unlike other Chardonnays from Burgundy, and his reds are his crowning achievement, managing to be wild and exciting while refined and elegant at the same time.

Bouvier’s vineyards in Marsannay are premier-cru quality (some may even get classified) and his lieu-dit Bourgogne Rouge En Montre Cul vineyard is of a quality well above most (cultivated on a steep slope, not flatland Bourgogne). And don’t miss his Morey-St-Denis En la Rue de Vergy, a superb vineyard right above the Grand Cru Clos de Tart. This domaine represents terrific value for a number of reasons–a lesser-known appellation combined with quality vineyard holdings and a conscientious and talented wine grower.
