You give the appearance
Of one widely travelled
I'll bet you've seen
Things in your time
So sit down beside me
And tell me your story
If you think
You'll like yesterday's wine
Yesterday's wine
We're yesterday's wine
Aging with time
Like yesterday's wine
-Willie Nelson, Yesterday’s Wine
I only have time for one more tasting before I leave for South Africa and before I leave for a 24-hour journey half way around the world I always take down some incredible wines the night before I leave town.
Two wines here are worth the price of admission by themselves and to show them out of magnum format should make it extra special the 1959 Chateau Latour and the 1953 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion. These two bottles are in excellent condition as are the other wines, I have pictures of the wines we are drinking below. There are only 12 seats available for this event and Wine Watch Caterings Toni Lampasone will be making a few small courses to accompany the tasting wines. The fee for this event is $1195 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463.
Best of the 1950’s Bordeaux tasting at Wine Watch

7pm
1959 Chateau Haut Brion Pessac Leognan
(98 Points) Sensational. Mature, generous and deep, a many-layered wine that shows sweet berry and chocolate flavors under a layer of slightly scratchy tannins. A second bottle was more supple, with a sweeter finish. --Haut-Brion vertical. –HS WS Wine Spectator
1959 Chateau Latour Pauillac (Magnum)
(98WS, 96RP). Wine Spectator: "Superb, but I have had an even better bottle of this wine; usually it's worth two points more. Equal in quality to the perfect 1961. Thick and rich, with berry, cherry and tobacco character, it shows layers of ripe fruit and velvety tannins that go on and on at the finish. Exciting wine.--Latour vertical. (JS)" (08/2000)
1959 Chateau Pichon Comtesse de Lalande Pauillac
Cellar Tracker has an average score of 91.3 points and the latest review is from April 2016
1955 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac
Price: $995.00 Your Price: $875.60
Quantity in Stock: 4
(97 points) The 1955 should be a vintage to buy at auction as I suspect the price is more reasonable than what such acclaimed vintages as 1959 and 1961 fetch. The color reveals no amber or rust, only a slight lightening of intensity at the edge. The nose offers up that explosive Mouton perfume of mint, leather, cassis, black olives, and lead pencil. In the mouth, there is stunning concentration, magnificent extraction of fruit, and plenty of tannin in the long finish. The wine still tastes remarkably young and could easily last another 20-30 years. Amazing! RP Wine Advocate
1955 Chateau Latour Pauillac
(94 Points) A Spectacular Latour, from a vintage that has provided may superb surprises (especially in the Medoc and Graves), the deep garnet-colored 1955 reveals some amber at the edge. It remains tannic, but its extraordinary perfume of smoke meats, dried herbs, cedar, black fruits, underbrush, and leather is seductive. Reminiscent of such vintages as 1966 and 1970, it is full-bodied, with a sweet, intense mid-palate, plenty of power, and decades of life remaining. This is an under-rated, stunning Latour that may even improve. Anticipated maturity: now-2020. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
1953 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion Pessac Leognan (Magnum)
Price: $3500.00
(93 Points) Tasted 6 Times with Consistent Notes||I have been told by a number of people who have followed the 1953 vintage from its youth that it drank exceptionally well in the late fifties. Apparently, it has lost none of its hedonistic, supple, explosive fruit. It will not get any better, so consumption is recommended between 1994-1997. It offers a delicious smoky, berry fragrance, a silky, creamy texture, and a long, heady finish. The low acidity provides vibrancy, and the tannins have melted away. Should you be fortunate enough to have the beauty cellared, drink it over the next several years. Wine Advocate. October, 1994 Robert Parker
