Wine Watch & Silversea Wine Cruise
Traveling from Rome to Venice
September 14-23, 2012
Hello Wine Drinking People! This is special travel correspondent Ashton Martin Howell, the III Special Correspondent for the Wine Watch Travel with a new segment of the Wine Watch E-mail “Once in a Lifetime Wine Drinking Excursions”.
I am the extravagant travel specialist and to say that I only travel first class is an understatement as I will be in the grand suite for this event and I think Andrew has a Royal Suite but every room on this good ship lollypop is equal in terms of spacious room, butler service, and of course all you can drink along with five star dining experiences and “Once in a Lifetime” winery visits and of course wine tastings.
Join me as we celebrate the wines of Italy and explore ancient neighboring Greece and Crete aboard the SilverSea ship Silver Cloud. Onboard the ship our group will be experiencing once in a lifetime tastings with some of the region’s top wines and then visiting the wineries as we visit each wine region.

In anticipation of our tour at Mastroberardino our group will taste a vertical selection of this wineries top wine, the Taurasi Radici, one of the landmark wines of the Compania wine region.
While docked in Sorrento we will be spending an afternoon at the legendary Mastroberardino Winery. Here we will taste unique local varietals like Greco di Tufo, Fallanghina and Fiano Di Avellino.

Sicily used to be known for Marsala wine, an oxidized style of wine that is more fit for cooking than drinking but today it is one of Italy’s most exciting wine regions with unique varietals like: Nero D’Avola, Grillo and Nerello Mascalese. We will be visiting one of Sicily’s most important wineries, Planeta winery. This family owned winery has five different facilities covering the main production areas on the Island. Then a visit to one of the new “cult producers” of the Mount Etna region of Sicily, Passopiscianro winery, an exciting new project from Andrea Franchetti.

Remember we need to do our homework first so onboard the ship there will be an extensive tasting of wines from Sicily before we embark on our trip there as well as an Amarone tasting with Bertani going back to 1964!

We end our trip in Venice and will make a pilgrimage to the cult producer Dal Forno and then on to the godfather of Valpolicella Giuseppe Quintarelli.
The ship will also be stopping in Greece and in Croatia and although we have a lot of drinking events planned as well as special shore excursions there will also be plenty of free time to do your own thing while we are visiting these countries.
Suites start at $5318 per person and the rates are based on double occupancy. This is an all-inclusive cruise and this includes Economy class air or Business Class Air for an additional $1,998 per guest. If you act quickly you will also receive a $1000 on board credit per suite!
Silverseas All-Inclusive Lifestyle includes: All Ocean-view Suite accommodations - Butler Service for every suite - Open Seating Dining - Relais & Chateau Grand Chefs inspired menus - Complimentary Beverages served throughout the ship: including fine wines, champagnes and spirits - complimentary in-suite beverage cabinet stocked daily - in-suite dining and 24 hour room service - Gratuities included
Your deposit is 20% and will be fully refundable until May of 2012, but you must book now to reserve you space with our group as there are only 20 spaces available for our Wine Drinking People.
The ship is starting to fill up so if you want to come with us- act quickly!
